DEPARTMENTAL SUMMARY: The Clinical Education Department is a system-wide support service that provides education, clinical practice support, and professional development opportunities for nursing, allied health, medical staff, and community partners at St. Charles Health System.

This integrated department delivers services across multiple domains, including:

  • Clinical Practice & Professional Development (CPPD): Onboarding/Orientation, Competency Management, Continuing Education, Professional Role Development, Collaborative Partnerships, and American Heart Association Training Center.
  • Medical Education: Graduate and undergraduate medical education, residency and fellowship programs, student clinical rotations, and partnerships with academic institutions.
  • Continuing Medical Education (CME): Accredited continuing education programming for medical staff, ensuring alignment with national standards and maintenance of licensure requirements.
  • Medical Library: Provision of evidence-based resources, research support, and clinical information services.
  • Area Health Education Center (AHEC): Collaboration with community partners to strengthen the healthcare workforce pipeline in Central Oregon and the Pacific Northwest.

POSITION OVERVIEW: The Post-Licensure Specialist RN manages assigned programs, including the Nurse Residency Program, Nurse Fellowships, Charge Nurse Training, Preceptor Development, Allied Health Programs, and Nursing Continuing Education. The role also provides administrative support for CME programs overseen by colleagues and ensures consistent implementation and evaluation of all programs to advance Clinical Excellence across St. Charles.

This position does not directly manage other caregivers.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:

Supports assigned Transition to Practice programs to meet clinical education needs of the organization.

Collaborates with Clinical Education staff, the Nurse Residency Program Advisory Board, and Nursing and Allied Health leadership on curriculum.

Coordinates entry of graduate nurse residents into programs, including assessment, orientation, and competency verification.

Supports compliance with Vizient/AACN Residency Program standards and external accreditation requirements.

Participates in Vizient/AACN calls, seminars, and work groups; assists in pursuing ANCC PTAP accreditation.

Serve as an educational consultant working with intra- and inter-disciplinary teams to brainstorm, problem solve, and participate in projects relating to policy, procedure, program development and strategic planning.

Contributes to strategic planning, committee appointments, ad-hoc projects, and educational activities as assigned by the Clinical Education department.

Supports planning, development, and administration of continuing education programs that reflect community and SCHS needs and industry expectations. 

Provides logistical and technical support for educational events, including scheduling, materials, AV setup, tracking attendance, and evaluating content quality.

Serves as liaison with regional schools and institutional libraries as needed.

Serve as a liaison between Nursing Continuing Education and Provider Continuing Education to ensure alignment and smooth coordination of educational programs.

Support the integration of CME-related activities for faculty requesting CME credit, collaborating with CME colleagues as needed.

Assist in tracking participation and program evaluation for activities spanning both nursing and provider education.

Help identify practice gaps and educational needs that span nursing and provider audiences.

Provide administrative and on-site support for medical education programs, including simulation, procedural skills, and research-related events, while facilitating collaboration with CME staff.

Support communication efforts to ensure nursing and provider audiences are informed of relevant educational opportunities.

Monitor compliance and accreditation considerations in partnership with CME colleagues, ensuring proper documentation and adherence to standards.

Stays current on regulatory requirements and supports quality assurance efforts across education programs.


Serve as liaison with faculty, confirming participation, ensure learning objectives are clearly defined, and maintain complete records required for clinical faculty appointments with regional medical schools.    


May perform additional duties of similar complexity within the organization, as required or assigned.

EDUCATION

                   

Required: Bachelor’s in Nursing from an accredited college or university.

Preferred: Master’s degree in nursing from an accredited college or university. Certificate in Nursing Education or equivalent preparation or experience in nursing education. Master’s degree in nursing education from an accredited college or university.


LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION


Required: Current license to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Oregon by the OR State Board of Nursing. Current American Heart Association (AHA) Provider BLS or obtain certification within 90 days of hire. ANPD specialty certification upon hire or agree to obtain when eligible.

EXPERIENCE


Required: Four (4) years of progressively responsible acute care or critical nursing experience. Two (2) years’ experience in a clinical leadership or education role. Education or experience in adult learning principles. Experience with various teaching methodologies, accrediting bodies for nursing excellence (ANCC), shared governance, clinical professional advancement systems required

Preferred: Five (5) years’ experience with education, program management, oversight of practice settings, or mentoring in a nursing or health care setting. Experience in a nursing leadership role, or nursing education role.
