As a Correctional Registered Nurse (RN), you’ll work alongside medical providers, nursing professionals, and correctional staff to deliver comprehensive patient care within the facility. You’ll perform assessments, administer medications, manage acute and chronic conditions, respond to urgent medical needs, and coordinate care for patients with a variety of healthcare needs.

Responsibilities

As a Registered Nurse, you will play a critical role in providing quality healthcare that protects the rights, dignity, and health of our unique patient population. Duties and responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

  • Performing initial health screenings and comprehensive nursing assessments
  • Monitoring and documenting patient health, including vital signs, medical histories, and changes in condition
  • Administering medications and treatments and monitoring patient response
  • Providing direct patient care, triaging patient needs, developing care plans, and coordinating services
  • Managing acute and chronic conditions such as asthma, hypertension, and diabetes
  • Responding to medical emergencies and providing appropriate nursing interventions
  • Collaborating with physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, and other healthcare professionals
  • Providing patient education regarding medications, treatment plans, preventive care, and healthy lifestyle choices
  • Maintaining accurate and timely medical records and clinical documentation
  • Following correctional facility security protocols while working closely with healthcare and correctional staff to promote patient and staff safety
  • Supporting continuity of care and discharge/release planning as appropriate.

Qualifications

Experience / Requirements / Qualifications

    • Holds a current, unrestricted license as a Registered Nurse within the state
    • Must possess an active BLS CPR Certification (AHA required)
    • Knowledge of nursing practice principles and techniques, occupational health and safety standards, infectious disease management, applicable health care laws, regulations, and procedures for direct health care services.
    • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
    • Able to work independently and in a team
    • Flexible schedule and availability to work overtime when needed
    • Integrity, professionalism and ability to adhere to a Code of Conduct and comply with all facility(s) correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements
    • Ability to interact effectively with patients from diverse backgrounds, including those with mental health or substance abuse issues
    • Must have the ability to maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information and integrity, professionalism and ability to adhere to a Code of Conduct and comply with all facility(s) correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements
    • Must pass the facility’s criminal background check and drug screening

     

    Physical Capabilities:

    Must have the ability to stand for long periods, lift and move patients (up to 50 pounds), bend, squat, reach, push, pull, walk significant distances, and perform physically demanding tasks like CPR, all while maintaining good balance and endurance throughout a shift.
