Position Summary:

Sidney Health Center is seeking a LPN to join our I CARE team in the Labor and Delivery setting. Essential duties of the position include providing care for women and their newborn infants, during and after childbirth. Caring for women who experience complications with their pregnancies or birthing process and collaborating with other professional disciplines to provide excellent care. LPNs on this unit have the opportunity to care for postpartum couplets, assist in operating room procedures and provide support during deliveries. Under the supervision of the Registered Nurse, provides prescribed medical treatment and personal care services which are within the scope of the practice of practical nursing to laboring, ill, injured, convalescent, and disabled persons as delegated, appropriate to the patient’s level of acuity and in accordance with established policies and procedures of the department and organization. Under the supervision of the Registered Nurse, and according to established policies and procedures, the LPN assists with surgical procedures as a scrub member of the obstetrical/surgical team. Dresses wounds, gives enemas, douches, alcohol rubs, and massages; applies compresses, ice bags, and hot water bottles. Bathes, dresses, and assists patients in walking and turning. Collects samples, such as urine, blood, and sputum, from patients for testing. Prepares or examines food trays for prescribed diet and feeds patients. Washes and dresses bodies of deceased persons. Assists in delivery, care, and feeding of infants. Assembles and uses such equipment as catheters and oxygen suppliers. Sterilizes equipment and supplies. Inventories and requisitions supplies. Performs the duties of a scrub nurse and surgical assist for assigned obstetrical cases. Description Job Title: LPN Labor & Delivery Nursery; Nights 7p-7a Supervised by: Registered Nurse/Charge Nurse Job Summary: Provides direct patient care in the Labor and Delivery and Postpartum setting. Provides observation and assists with planning for individualized patient care. Communicates with physicians about changes in patient’s clinical condition including follow-up assessment findings and results of diagnostic studies. Responds quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment. Participates in performance improvement activities. Demonstrates Competency in the Following Areas: Able to receive and assist with neonate at delivery. Able to perform neonatal resuscitation according to AHA/AAP guidelines under the direct supervision of an RN. Ability to function in Level 1 Nursery care and stabilization of newborn prior to transfer. Ability to provide care for a mother-baby couplet in a room-in environment. Ability to scrub for Cesarean Section. Attend training unless previously trained. Ability to conduct antepartum, intrapartum and postpartum shift observations under the direct supervision of an RN.
