Responsibilities

The NICU Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) is responsible and accountable for the quality of nursing care provided in the NICU.

  • Providing policies, procedures, clinical orientation, staff development, mentoring, consultation, and the maintenance of state and national standards of care.
  • The CNS is responsible for the collection, submission, evaluation and dissemination of required data.
  • The NICU education plan is developed and implemented in consultation with the NICU Nursing and Medical Directors.  

Qualifications

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING

 

1.     Current and valid license as a Registered Nurse issued by the State.

2.     Current certification by the State Board of Nursing as a Clinical Nurse Specialist 

3.     Current certification in Neonatal Intensive Care Nursing from a nationally recognized accrediting organization (i.e. the NCC)

4.     Three (3) years of clinical experience in neonatal nursing care

a.     Minimum of one (1) year experience in neonatal nursing care at a NICU that is equivalent to a Regional or Community NICU

5.     NRP certificate upon hire and maintain current

6.     NRP Instructor preferred

7.     Current BCLS (AHA) certificate upon hire and maintain current.
