Job Summary

The Registered Nurse - Surgery (RN-Surgery) provides direct and comprehensive nursing care to surgical patients within an acute care hospital setting. Utilizing the nursing process, the RN-Surgery assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates patient care in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team to achieve optimal outcomes. This role supports surgical interventions across all age groups and ensures patient safety, comfort, and education throughout the perioperative process.

Essential Functions

  • Delivers patient-centered nursing care based on established standards of care and the nursing process
  • Administers medications and treatments as prescribed and in accordance with policy
  • Documents all aspects of patient care clearly and accurately
  • Monitors, evaluates, and communicates patient condition to healthcare team, patient, and family
  • Coordinates and collaborates with surgical and interdisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient care
  • Participates in patient transfer, discharge, and referrals as needed
  • Educates patients and families on surgical procedures, recovery expectations, and post-operative care
  • Advocates for the physical and emotional well-being of patients throughout the surgical experience

Qualifications

Education

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (required within time frame specified in facility policy)
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification (required within time frame specified in facility policy)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification (required within timeframe specified in facility policy)

Experience

  • Minimum of one year of clinical nursing experience preferred
  • Previous perioperative or surgical services experience strongly preferred

We partner with your physician and offer 24-hour clinical care seven days a week so you can start your journey to wellness. For those who need special care, we offer an eight-bed ICU and two negative pressure rooms. We are located just outside of downtown San Diego, less than two miles north of the San Diego Zoo. Job Summary Provides quality patient care to critically ill patients, through the nursing process of Assessment, Planning, Intervention, and Evaluation. Serves as a patient advocate at all times. Supervises the nursing care provided to each patient by other caregivers.
