Supervisor (RN) - Staffing Resource Office - Rotating Shift
In nursing leadership, few roles offer the opportunity to influence patient care, staff support, and hospital operations across an entire medical center. As a Supervisor (RN) within UVA Health's Staffing Resource Office, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring safe, effective care delivery while serving as an operational leader for one of Virginia's premier academic health systems.
This position is ideal for experienced nurses who are ready to expand beyond unit-based leadership and gain broad exposure to staffing operations, emergency response, patient relations, risk management, and hospital-wide decision making. You'll serve as a trusted resource for clinical teams while helping guide the daily operations of a complex healthcare environment.
The Role
As a Supervisor (RN), you will serve as a hospital-wide nursing leader responsible for staffing coordination, operational oversight, emergency response, and administrative leadership during assigned shifts. Working in partnership with the Staffing Resource Office team, you will help ensure the right resources are in place to support safe patient care throughout the medical center.
In an average shift, you will:
- Coordinate staffing assignments for Registered Nurses, Patient Care Technicians, Health Unit Coordinators, Patient Companions, and float staff.
- Partner with the Staffing Resource Office Clerk to address staffing needs and operational challenges across the hospital.
- Provide leadership and operational oversight for hospital departments during evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, and other after-hours periods.
- Respond to hospital code events and behavioral emergencies while supporting emergency response coordination.
- Serve as a key resource for nursing teams facing operational or patient care challenges.
- Support after-hours functions related to Employee Health, Risk Management, and Patient Relations.
- Manage escalated patient, family, and visitor concerns while contributing to service recovery efforts.
- Collaborate with leaders across departments to ensure efficient patient flow and workforce deployment.
This is a highly autonomous leadership role where critical thinking, clinical judgment, and confident decision making are essential. No two shifts are alike, making this an outstanding opportunity for nurses who thrive in dynamic, fast-paced environments and enjoy solving complex operational challenges.
