RN - Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine Unit (PBMU), 0.9 FTE Day Shift We are looking to hire a 0.9 FTE Day Shift RN for our Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine Unit (PBMU)! No pediatrics experience? No problem! If you have experience working with adult populations, we will provide training on working with pediatric patients and their families while leveraging the adult RN experience you already have. The PBMU is committed to the evaluation and behavioral stabilization of children (ages 4 through 17) with emotional, behavioral, and neuropsychiatric disorders. Depression, developmental delays, attention deficits, anxiety, pervasive developmental disorders, conduct disorders, oppositional-defiant disorders, anorexia/bulimia, and psychosis are among the disorders commonly diagnosed. The unit is also invested in treating children with unique concomitant problems such as hearing impairments, chronic medical illnesses, or physical developmental disabilities. The PBMU program utilizes a model of care that emphasizes an interdisciplinary approach. Registered nurses; child and adolescent psychiatrists; psychiatric nurse practitioners; psychologists; mental health therapists; social workers; pediatric mental health specialists (PMHS); special education teachers; occupational, recreational, art, music, and speech therapists; and students from these various disciplines all participate in the development of individualized treatment plans. Care includes the provision of behavior management in a milieu setting; family/caregiver and patient education; group activities; supportive family/caregiver and individual support; psychotropic medication management; and limited medical nursing services. The standard nurse to patient ratio is 1:4 flexing up to 1:5 as needed. The unit is equipped with telemetry monitoring for up to 7 patients. Our patients are hemodynamically stable. Examples of these patients include those with injuries related to gunshot wounds or other penetrating injury, assaults, motor vehicle crashes, and falls. Four rooms are equipped to be used as "Safety Suites." These four rooms are for the care of the traumatic brain injury patient and are semi-private and closely monitored. Department Overview Our Minneapolis medical/surgical float team is an integral part of nursing services within our medical/surgical community and provides valuable resources to the hospital system. Team members apply specific skill sets to four departments and provide additional resources as needs are identified. Accountable for professional practice including independent nursing functions and delegated medical functions performed in collaboration with other health team members. Education Requirements: * Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. * Current Minnesota RN licensure. * Current BLS certification. * One (1) year experience (within the last 2 years) working with specialized patient population (e.g. Neurosciences, inpatient psychiatry). Pediatric experience preferred. An informational meeting with the Patient Care Manager is required prior to awarding the position. * Based upon the unit in which you are applying, additional certification(s) may be required. Department specific required qualifications need to be obtained within 6 months of employment. * Current Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition and Stabilization (PEARS) certification required or obtained during orientation. We are dedicated to managing the care of hospitalized infants, children, and teenagers, providing 24/7/365 on-site service at both the Minneapolis and St. Paul hospital campuses. Boasting 100+ providers, the PHM service is a collaborative medical practice consisting of pediatricians and Advanced Practice Providers (APPs), including Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants. Our mission is to positively impact children's health not only in the Twin Cities but also on a regional and national level. Position Summary As a Pediatric Hospital Medicine APP Hospitalist, you will play a crucial role in managing the care of hospitalized patients from admission to discharge. You will work independently and in collaboration with physician hospitalists to provide comprehensive assessments and create medical plans of care. You will gain diverse clinical experiences from covering patients in Acute Care units, the Infant Care Center, and serving as the primary team for a wide array of specialty patients such as endocrinology, eating disorders, gastroenterology, pulmonology, nephrology, infectious disease, cardiology, general surgery, urology, ENT, and psychiatry. Your responsibilities will include: Collect and synthesize data from historical information, diagnostic tests, therapeutic interventions, and physical examinations. Determine diagnoses and appropriate interventions consistent with your scope of practice, experience, board certification, and organizational professional staff policy. Collaborate closely with hospital sub-specialists, surgical staff, nursing staff, and social workers to create comprehensive treatment plans for patients and their families during their hospital stay. APRN: Graduate of an accredited Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Program. Master’s Degree required; Doctorate preferred. Current MN RN/APRN License. Nationally Board Certified as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner with either the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board (PNCB) or American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Current BLS certification. - OR - Physician Assistant : Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistants program. Master’s degree required; Doctorate preferred Physician Assistant: MN Physician Assistant License. National Certification required by NCCPA. Current BLS certification.
