Department FPG Anesthesiology Job Summary Sarasota Memorial Health Care System is seeking CRNAs with great communication and interpersonal skills to join the Anesthesiology team at Sarasota Memorial Hospital in Sarasota, FL. Highlights of the Opportunity: A full-time CRNA is expected to cover 176 shifts annually, with additional pay for extra shifts. Diverse mix of cases including Cardiac, Endo, General Surgery, Neuro, OB, Oncology, Ortho, Robotics, Spine, Vascular, and Level II Trauma. Staffing model planned is 40+ Anesthesiologists, and 100+ CRNAs covering 70+ sites including Cath Lab, IR, Endo. Average anesthesia volume is 65,000 cases annually. Physicians will have oversight of CRNA’s. Incentive/Benefits Package: Competitive compensation package with tiered salary ranges based on years of experience. W-2 position with Health Care System that has an excellent reputation and history of providing quality care. We offer a competitive salary with increases based on years of experience, along with a generous retention bonus, quality incentives, and a relocation allowance. Premium pay calculation if a clinician works past the scheduled shift. Premium calculation also applies if a clinician opts to pick-up extra shifts. Prepares prescribed solutions and administers local, intravenous, spinal or other anesthetics following specified methods and procedures. Responds to emergency situations by providing airway management, administering fluids or drugs, and using basic or advanced life support techniques. Develops anesthesia care plans. Description Job Summary Provides anesthetic care of the patients, exclusively under the direct supervision and guidance of a Pediatric Anesthesiologist. Job Specific Duties Obtains the patient’s medical history and performs physical exam. Verifies patient identification, procedure to be done and body site if applicable, and that the informed consent for the planned anesthetic intervention has been obtained from the parent or legal guardian. Verifies adequate NPO times. Assesses the patient’s pain management needs prior to the procedure. Assesses the patient’s medical history, physical exam, age specific needs and requirements for a safe and successful completion of the procedure and how it might affect the patient’s response to anesthesia. Discusses with the supervising anesthesiologist the patient’s specific medical needs, the physiology and technical needs of the procedure, and determines the specific pre-anesthetic medications plus medications and anesthetic techniques that will best fit the patient’s need during this procedure. Writes orders for pre anesthetic medications. Performs a pre-anesthesia machine check then sets up and organizes all rooms assigned for the full daily schedule. Participates in Time Out, verification of patient’s identity, procedure and site. Together with the supervising anesthesiologist administers the anesthetic plan that was determined to be the best plan for the patient’s need. Inserts peripheral venous catheters, radial artery catheters or central venous catheter if deemed necessary under the supervision of the anesthesiologist. Performs supervised, safe and effective techniques during mask ventilation, tracheal intubation, extubation and mechanical ventilation of the patient. Provides anesthesia care consistent with infection control and anesthetic safety. Continuously monitors patient with pulse oximetry, capnograph, EKG, NIBP or arterial line, and temperature sensors if available, oxygen analyzer, neuromuscular function if applicable and documents every 5 minutes on the anesthesia record. Continuously adjusts the level of anesthesia, and alters the technique or amount of respiratory support to meet patient’s needs. Observes skin color, the color of the blood in the surgical field and performs arterial blood gas analysis when indicated. All procedures and techniques utilized during anesthesia for surgery are subject to supervision by the Attending Anesthesiologist assigned to that area. Responsibilities Participates and accurately documents patients pre-anesthetic preparation and evaluation. Formulates a patient-specific plan for anesthesia care in collaboration with attending anesthesiologist. Implements, monitors and adjusts patients physiologic condition as appropriate for type of anesthesia and specific patients needs. Recognizes abnormal patient response to anesthesia and adjunct medications; takes appropriate action. Demonstrates ability to work in a stressful environment by prioritizing and implementing corrective action based on the situation. Provides observation, monitoring and resuscitation of patients in route to recovery room or to special care unit according to protocol. Provides concise comprehensive anesthesia report to recovery room or unit nurse according to protocol. Transfers the responsibility for care of the patient to other qualified providers post-operatively to assure continuity of care and patient safety. Supports operating room procedures. Keeps patient informed of their medical condition and the course of treatment being prescribed. Functions independently in executing the day to day operational and administrative management duties / responsibilities in the absence of the Chief CRNA. Participates in additional areas of responsibility, which are within the expertise of the individual CRNA. Assumes responsibility for professional development of self and contributes to and assists with the professional development of others. Initiates search of anesthesia and related literature, suggests changes and improvement in patient care standards. Functions as a clinical educator for the student registered nurse anesthetists. Follows and performs all related unit specific policies and procedures, as detailed on the unit specific competency check-list. Utilizes job and unit specific equipment as required. Experience Generally requires 1 to 3 years of related experience. Education Master's degree in Nursing is required. Credentials Valid Florida licensed RN/CRNA or eligibility for licensure as CRNA/Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner. National Board Certification by the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists. American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) and any additional applicable life support certification for Healthcare Providers is required upon hire with at least 6 months validity and maintenance at JHS for the duration of employment. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) are required. Must meet and maintain valid and current all unit specific and organizational skills/competencies, certifications/licensures, as required by regulatory and/or nursing standard of practice for the specialty.
