Translates complex medical terminology to ensure complete understanding. Prepares patients and families/caregivers for future self-management. Manages evidence-based practices and continuous process improvement initiatives to meet and exceed quality measures and enhance the exceptional care provided to patients. Manages the quality of care by collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to coordinate, evaluate, customize, and deliver a holistic patient treatment plan that promotes and supports recovery. The development of specific technical skills enables the RNFA to assist the surgeon with specific intraoperative procedures that are beyond the scope of practice for registered nurses without RNFA education and training. The scope of practice includes utilization of nursing process in performing comprehensive preoperative patient care management, intraoperative surgical first assisting and postoperative patient care management. Intraoperatively, the RNFA functions interdependently with the surgeon and applies knowledge, skill, and judgment necessary to assist the surgeon in performing a safe operation that yields optimal results for the patient. The RNFA will provide patient care for all ages and/or provide leadership and direction to the perioperative team during the Perioperative phase as needed. The RNFA does not concurrently function as the Scrub Nurse.
