About the Perianesthesia Department: Pre & post has 34 beds providing care for same day surgery patients, inpatients and surgical admits Post-anesthesia care unit (PACU) has 21 beds and cares for 50-80 patients/day. Schedule:This PACU RN will be working a 0.8 FTE (64 hours every two weeks) on the rotating day/evening shift and 8 hour shifts. Start times vary with the earliest being 5am and the latest being 3pm. This position does have off site on call requirements. The weekend requirement is on-call every 6th weekend 12 hour day/night rotating and one weekday night (10:30p-6:30a) per month. Some specific duties include pre-admission phone calls, admissions day of surgery, monitoring and continuously assessing patients following procedure until ready for transfer to the floor-as well as Phase 2 care to include intensive patient education that assures readiness for discharge to home. Critical care skills needed to include airway and hemodynamic management, pain management, and excellent assessment skills for patients in altered states of consciousness. We are currently hiring for a Registered Nurse (RN) position! This is a 0.5 FTE with day shifts, for our Phalen, St. Paul outpatient Clinic. About This Position The Medical Assistant will manage the patient flow throughout the clinic and assist providers in the management and treatment of their patients. Patients come from a variety of backgrounds and various age groups requiring individualized care including infants, children, adolescents, adults, or geriatrics. The focus of the Medical Assistant is on collaborative, supportive and delegated tasks as described in the Blaze Health Medical Assistant scope of practice. Delegable tasks and competencies are specific to the role of the Supervising Nurse and Supervising Provider and are described by the Minnesota Board of Nursing and the Minnesota Board of Medical Practice. The Medical Assistant receives direction and collaborates with the Clinic Supervisor, Clinic Manager, and Providers to meet the defined goals of the customer, shift, department and organization. Communication with the health care team related to progress, concerns, questions or problems that arise are an essential element of the Medical Assistant role. Unit based skills list outlines specific expectations including technical procedures with competency assessment/validation. Skill and competency validations will occur upon hire and on a schedule determined by Blaze Health based on the Blaze Health Mandatory Education, Training, Education, License, Registration, and Certification policy. Requirements Education High School graduate or equivalent (i.e. GED) required Graduate of a Medical Assistant program accredited by a recognized accrediting organization (i.e. Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs, Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools) with on the job experience and training OR Graduate of a Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) program accredited by a national health services organization (i.e. American Medical Technologists) with on-the-job experience and training and passing the RMA certification exam. OR Six (6) months of previous Medical Assistant experience within the North Memorial Health system Experience Previous experience in a clinical setting preferred. Passed X-Ray Operator’s examination, or willing to take exam according to individual clinic needs. Knowledge, Skills And Abilities Must be able to prioritize multiple tasks in an efficient manner. Knowledge of a skill in using computer software applications. Promotes efficient patient flow and patient care, i.e. exams, and procedures. Performs clinic support tasks including miscellaneous clerical tasks, answering phones, and maintaining physicians schedule. Supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, to include the Code of Ethics and Business Standards. Escorts patients to and from exam rooms, physician offices, and treatment room as appropriate. Records patient data prior to each physician visit, including but not limited to, vital signs, height, weight, allergies, and medication changes. Obtains all necessary patient records as required by physician prior to treatment or procedures. Prepares and stocks exam/treatment rooms and orders supplies as needed. Assists physicians with exams and procedures as requested. Administers subcutaneous and intramuscular injections, as delegated by RN or physician. Maintains all exam/treatment room disinfection protocols. Answers patient telephone calls for referral to physician or nurse/pharmacist. Phones in prescriptions and makes other patient calls as directed by physicians and RN. Informs physician of patient reschedules and no shows. Performs other administrative duties, i.e. typing, filing faxing, chart preparation, reception, etc., as requested by supervisor or physician.
