Overview As an Ophthalmology RN, your strong detail orientation and multi-tasking skills will be essential in our fast-paced, high-volume environment. You will provide a safe and efficient environment for all patients in our Ambulatory Surgical Center (ASC) during the perioperative phases Responsibilities Greets and admit patients to the pre-/post-operative area Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates patient care using the nursing process and take into account individual patient needs Prepares operating suite for patients - monitor cleanliness, assemble supplies, instruments and sutures, check equipment for proper functioning Assesses patient’s condition on arrival in surgery and provide physical or emotional support as needed Assists Anesthesia Provider and Surgeon during procedures, maintaining constant awareness of the operative situation and a safe environment for patients and personnel Evaluates, observes, and treats patients under local anesthesia Maintains accurate and complete records of patients’ surgical experience Starts IVs, gives medications, and prepares drugs and solutions per physician protocols Prepares for and manages immediate postoperative care, including transporting patients to recovery room, communicating patient needs, and providing patient and family training Assists in orientation of new team members and cross-training of existing personnel Obtains patient history through interviews and evaluations, noting data in chart and sharing pertinent information with physician Qualifications Associate’s degree required; BSN preferred Current RN License 1-year Ophthalmology experience as a Surgery RN is a plus BLS certification required ASC experience preferred Bilingual preferred Detailed oriented, reliable and able to multi-task in a fast-paced, high-volume work environment Excellent verbal and written communication skills This is a Safety Sensitive position Benefits & Perks Your health, happiness and your future matters! Maintains a clean, functional environment including cleaning and disinfection of equipment, exam rooms and storage areas. Disinfects equipment and instruments using appropriate solutions following sterilization procedures. Follows manufacturer's recommendations and OSHA guidelines in handling of hazardous substances. Medication ordering and tasks related to all medications (e.g. expired medications/equipment and recalls). 7. Develops and maintains effective communication mechanism with all external and internal customers. Exemplifies service orientation and the team concept in all contacts. 8. This position will complete all necessary on-boarding/orientation activities, including simulation training, as needed or directed. 9. This position works under the direct supervision of the providers. The successful candidate: Collaborates with Physicians to evaluate patient readiness for change in level of care. Responsible for the assessment, treatment care and education of patients. Cares for ICU, Medical Surgical, and telemetry patients as necessary. Ability to conduct risk assessment, prevention and treatment of pressure injury Ability to interpret and operate cardiac and other invasive and noninvasive monitors, recognize normal/abnormal rhythms/trends, and institute appropriate interventions. Care for patients with complex needs including hemodynamically compromised and mechanically ventilated patients. Initiate and maintain complex IV therapy, including thrombolytic administration, vasoactive medications, central IV catheters, dialysis catheters & arterial lines. Safe use of less invasive, life supporting modalities i.e. BiPAP, ETCO2, arterial pressure- based CO/CI & SVO2 monitor, core temperature monitors. Ability to care for patients with IV lines, arterial lines, central lines, ports, chest tubes, pleural catheters, tracheostomy tubes and endotracheal tubes. Maintenance and care of patients with an ostomy/ileostomy and urostomy. Care for, assess and monitor patients with Patient Controlled Analgesia (PCA) and epidural catheters. Demonstrates basic knowledge of chemotherapeutic/immunotherapeutic agents. Must be able to work 2 12's, 7:00a-7:30p Qualifications Your qualifications should include: 1 year experience in ICU/Inpatient Associate Degree in Nursing or equivalent Arizona Registered Nurse License or a Registered Nurse License form a Compact State Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification- an approved American Heart Association (AHA) training site, American Safety & Health Institute, or Red Cross BLS certification is required upon hire. If their current certification does not meet the guidelines, employees will have (30) days from the date of hire to acquire attend an onsite initial BLS course and will be required to renew every two years. Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Certification-employees will have thirty (30) days from the date of hire to acquire American Heart Association (AHA) ACLS certification and will need to be renewed every two years. Will not be allowed to provide ACLS for patients independently until AHA ACLS cards are obtained.
