Join a dynamic pediatric emergency medicine team at Children’s Minnesota! We are seeking a passionate Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP) or Physician Assistant (PA-C) who enjoys caring for a diverse pediatric population and is committed to delivering exceptional care to children and families. Position Summary The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) will practice as an independent clinician while working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary care team. This role is responsible for the direct care and clinical management of pediatric patients at our St. Paul and Minneapolis Emergency Department locations. APPs in the pediatric emergency department practice to the full scope of their licensure within a team-based model that includes both independent patient visits and shared visits alongside an attending physician. Key Responsibilities Assess, diagnose, treat, and manage pediatric patients presenting with a wide range of acute and traumatic conditions Obtain histories, perform physical exams, order and interpret diagnostic tests, and implement treatment plans Prescribe medications and therapeutic interventions appropriate to the patient population Collaborate with attending physicians, pediatric specialists, and the interdisciplinary care team to deliver safe, efficient, high-quality care Schedule Requirements We are open to a range of 0.8 to 1.0 FTE, depending on candidate interest and program needs. Rotating schedule that includes weekends and holidays The Children's Emergency departments, located in Minneapolis and St. Paul, are staffed 24 hours-a-day by board-eligible or board-certified pediatric emergency physicians and by nurses with specialized education in pediatric emergency medicine. Each facility is designed to support short-stay needs, coordinate pediatric and neonatal care transport, assault and abuse services, access to pediatric specialists, and emergency telephone consultation and referral. EDUCATION/ LICENSE / CERTIFICATION / EXPERIENCE: APRN Requirements: Current MN RN/APRN License. Nationally Board Certified as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner with either the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board (PNCB) or American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Doctorate degree in Nursing Practice preferred Physician Assistant Requirements: Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program. Physician Assistant Certification by the NCCPA Certification Board and MN Medical Board license required. Department Overview Our neonatal program is the largest in the Midwest. We provide the full scope of care for infants needing intensive care. At the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) at Children’s Minnesota Minneapolis Campus, our inter-disciplinary team of over 500 professionals is dedicated to the care of babies with life-changing diagnoses. We specialize in caring for infants needing level III and level IV intensive care, including babies born prematurely or with birth defects, congenital heart disease, genetic disorders or medical disorders; babies who need extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO); babies needing body cooling, and any baby needing surgery. We care for babies requiring complex care, such as hemodynamic monitoring, critical medication management, maintenance of systemic perfusion and management of organ failure. We are part of the Mother Baby Center in Minneapolis at Abbott Northwestern Hospital, which includes a large high-risk delivery service, a fetal surgery program and a perinatal clinic. The Children’s Minneapolis NICU is a 44-bed level III and level IV unit, and is supported by a step-down level II infant care center and special care nursery. Our team balances a highly technical skill set with a family-centered approach. As a member of the largest pediatric heart program in the state, our team works closely with more than 200 interdisciplinary professionals dedicated to the care of children with life-changing cardiovascular diagnoses. In this unit, we care for patients along their continuum of acute recovery to provide for their changing physical and emotional needs as we prepare them to return home. We specialize in caring for children experiencing heart failure, after repair of congenital heart defects and heart catheterization, and before and after transplant. We routinely utilize extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) and ventricular assist devices (VAD) in the care we provide. Our patient population requires hemodynamic monitoring, critical medication management, maintenance of systemic perfusion, and management of organ failure. What You’ll Do The Psychiatric and Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHP) serves on the Overnight Shift as a clinical provider within the Access & Assessment Department, practicing at the top of licensure and scope in accordance with Hospital Medical Staff Bylaws, Rules and Regulations of the Medical Staff, and clinical privileges granted by the Medical Executive Committee (MEC). The PMHNP’s primary responsibility is to review incoming clinical referrals, assess clinical appropriateness for admission, and determine the appropriate Level of Care (LOC) and admission disposition. The PMHNP partners with physicians, therapists, admissions clinicians, nursing, and operational leadership to ensure timely, clinically appropriate LOC decisions while maintaining the highest standards of patient safety and quality. In addition to supporting admission decision-making, the PMHNP initiates psychiatric evaluations, enters admission, treatment, and medication orders, provides psychiatric medication management, and offers psychiatric consultation as clinically indicated. The PMHNP serves as the designated Qualified Medical Provider (QMP) for EMTALA purposes as an additional responsibility while supporting quality improvement initiatives, clinical pathway development, clinical documentation, and innovative behavioral health access models.
