Position Summary The NNP functions collaboratively with the supervising Neonatologists to coordinate the patient care needs of the high-risk newborn population at Children's Hospital and Clinics of MN. The NNP collaboratively manages the critically ill infant's cares using expertise and evaluative tools to address the overall medical management of the infants. License/Certification requirements: Current MN RN License, Current MN APRN License, Current BLS Certification, Current NRP. Completed advanced training program and is certified by NCC as a neonatal nurse practitioner. 2 years level III NNP experience preferred. 500 Clinical Hours within last three years. Department Overview Our care traffic control center (CTCC) is at the heart of the Children’s Minnesota organization overseeing the operations of each hospital dispersed between three campuses. Position Summary The Hospital Nursing Supervisor (HNS) directs, organizes, plans and coordinates overall activities of the hospital involving a high degree of judgment, initiative, and leadership including the ability to anticipate and positively react to technical, organizational, and administrative issues during their assigned shifts. The HNS provides leadership, coordination and management of personnel, and assumes responsibility for hospital administrative functions Monday through Friday when management/administration is not in-house and 24 hours on weekends and holidays. The HNS maintains efficient utilization of nursing resources, working collaboratively with unit leadership, the resource management coordinators (RMCs), and charge nurses. The HNS plays a critical role in patient placement, the admission status process, and the facilitation of direct admissions during routine and surge situations. This individual is visible and available to clinical areas within all areas providing patient care to facilitate patient placement, collaboration with and among charge nurses, and evaluate current and potential staffing concerns. The HNS interprets administrative/departmental policy and procedures for all personnel and acts as an administrative liaison, clinical resource, and role model for staff. They are responsible for triaging operational issues or clinical areas of concern and alerting the Administrator On-Call (AOC), Patient Care Director On-Call (DOC), or Patient Care Manager On-Call (PCM-OC) when needed. The HNS assists in the resolution of issues relating to physicians, patients, families and staff and performs investigations pertaining to incidents/occurrences during their shift as well as reporting to the on call leadership team. License/Certification/Registration: * Registered Nurse in MN required * BLS required Education: * Bachelor's degree preferred * CPI or Behavioral Health Care & Personal Safety Course within 6 months of hire Experience: * 3 to 5 years hospital-based nursing experience. * Nursing leadership experience in a hospital setting. Could include performance in managerial or supervisory roles as well as charge nurse, educator, and resource nurse roles. * Utilization of electronic health record systems (e.g., Cerner). At the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) at Children’s Minnesota Minneapolis Campus, our inter-disciplinary team of over 500 professionals is dedicated to the care of babies with life-changing diagnoses. We specialize in caring for infants needing level III and level IV intensive care, including babies born prematurely or with birth defects, congenital heart disease, genetic disorders or medical disorders; babies who need extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO); babies needing body cooling, and any baby needing surgery. We care for babies requiring complex care, such as hemodynamic monitoring, critical medication management, maintenance of systemic perfusion and management of organ failure. We are part of the Mother Baby Center in Minneapolis at Abbott Northwestern Hospital, which includes a large high-risk delivery service, a fetal surgery program and a perinatal clinic. The Children’s Minneapolis NICU is a 44-bed level III and level IV unit, and is supported by a step-down level II infant care center and special care nursery. In this unit, we care for patients along their continuum of acute recovery to provide for their changing physical and emotional needs as we prepare them to return home. We specialize in caring for children experiencing heart failure, after repair of congenital heart defects and heart catheterization, and before and after transplant. We routinely utilize extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) and ventricular assist devices (VAD) in the care we provide. About this Unit: The 4th Floor Ortho Spine unit at M Health Fairview Southdale Hospital is a 26-bed adult medical/surgical unit specializing in total joint replacements, spinal surgeries, and orthopedic recovery, with additional exposure to diverse medical diagnoses. This unit offers a healthy, team-oriented environment supported by strong leadership and collaborative care teams including RNs, Nursing Assistants, and Nursing Station Technicians. With telemetry capabilities and a focus on both clinical excellence and professional development, it’s an ideal setting for those passionate about delivering high-quality care in a dynamic and supportive atmosphere. Job Responsibilities The Nursing Assistant is responsible for assisting the professional nurse/caregiver in the delivery of patient care, transporting patient and/or equipment, setting up and maintaining patient rooms, and the reordering and stocking of supplies. The Nursing Assistant does not work autonomously but works under the direction of a professional nurse. The Nursing Assistant may be given a patient care assignment based on unit needs and the discretion of the manager/charge nurse. Provides basic patient care by performing routine duties to include: Personal grooming, bathing, toileting, Feeding, Skin care needs (clean and sterile dressing changes), applying ointments/creams, Oral hygiene, Specimen collection/testing, Position/ambulating, Changing linens, Promptly answers call lights. Assists the nurse in monitoring patient condition. Accurately takes and records weights, input/output, blood pressure, temperature, pulse rates, respiration, oxygen saturation. Places patient on/off monitors or equipment. Reports unusual findings to the RN in a timely manner. Assists with admissions, transfers, and discharge of patients. Orients patient and their family to the environment. Assures the patient’s belongings are accounted for, documented upon admission, transfer and discharge. Transports patients, equipment, specimen and supplies. Assures patients get to appointments on time. Uses transfer belt when assisting patients with transfers and/or ambulation. Cleans sets up, and maintains rooms and equipment. Orders and stocks supplies. Accurately documents tasks performed on appropriate form. Performs other tasks as needed. Required Qualifications License/Certification/Registration Basic Life Support (BLS for Healthcare Providers) certification required. Ontrack participants much be able to obtain Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers certification upon completion of the OnTrack program. AND ONE or more of the following: Successful completion of Fairview’s OnTrack Nursing Assistant training program or another Fairview sponsored Nursing Assistant program. Or Six months of recent direct care experience in a long term, home care or acute care setting. (Appropriate roles may include, Nursing Assistant, PCA, Resident Assistant or Emergency Room Technician) Or Current enrollment in an LPN, RN or Nurse Practitioner program, and completion of one (1) semester of clinical rotation within the program. What You’ll Do The Residential Nurse will play a vital role in assessing and monitoring the daily functioning of residents, while also assisting in symptom management to ensure optimal care and support. Key Responsibilities: Conduct comprehensive nursing assessments upon resident admission and facilitate necessary discharge planning within residential programs. Track and communicate essential medical information effectively, both verbally and through written documentation. Assist in coordinating and scheduling medical appointments for residents. Provide guidance to other administrators on-call regarding medical or medication-related issues as necessary. Demonstrate psychological insight and self-awareness in understanding client behaviors and interventions, and actively seek supervision and consultation regarding the challenges and demands of the residential RN role.
