Clinic Assistant Medical Assistant

Overview As a Clinic Assistant, your workdays will be varied and engaging. You may be heavily involved with patient registration and clerical support one day, while the next you’ll be escorting patients to exam rooms and guiding them through the continuum of care. Responsibilities The Clinic Assistant MA participates as a member of the health care team in cooperation with and under the direction of a physician. In addition, offers complex, diversified office support within the clinic setting. Provides a variety of key services guiding the patients through the continuum of care between physician services, diagnostic services and hospitalizations Requires advanced administrative skills and knowledge of physician outpatient clinic operations, knowledge and experience with insurance plans and benefit designs, and pre-authorization procedures, and some knowledge of CPT and ICD coding. Work is generally performed independently requiring judgment and problem-solving skills under limited supervision. Qualifications Education: Completion of a medical assistant program or successful completion of a formal medical services training program of the United States Armed Forces, or higher education (such as LPN or RN). Experience: Experience as a back office medical assistant in a clinic setting. A minimum of three years of progressively more responsible health care experience or equivalent education in at least one of the following areas required: Patient Registration Medical Records/Health Information Clerical support experience Insurance Verification/Authorization/Referrals Skills: Advanced skill with appropriate computer systems and software packages. May require ability to transcribe reports, forms, and correspondence, including the use of technical and medical terminology, from longhand or dictation. Ability to compose routine correspondence and reports. Ability to edit documents for grammar, punctuation, etc. Knowledge of departmental policies and procedures. Time management and organizational skills. Ability to withstand varying job pressures and effectively prioritize related tasks. Demonstrated interpersonal and effective communication skills that promote cooperation and teamwork. Ability to work with credibility and effectiveness with medical and administrative staff. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Ability to work with confidential information. Licensure Washington and Oregon: Current American Heart Association approved CPR certification required. MA certification required upon hire, or within one year of hire, from either the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), the American Medical Technologists (AMT), the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), the National Healthcare Association (NHA) or higher (such as LPN or RN). AAMA preferred. Certification may be required upon hire, depending on the needs of the department. Washington Only: Washington State certification as a Medical Assistant-Certified or Interim Medical Assistant-Certified required, including completion of required Washington State AIDS training (including those who float into the role). LPN Acute Care

Overview LPNs take care of patients that have long term treatment needs. Often, these patients do not have a safe discharge plan to complete the treatment elsewhere and therefore continue to have a bed in the hospital. LPNs could have the opportunity to have hands on experience with wound care and IV antibiotics, among other long term care treatment. LPNs may often work beside acute care RNs but not directly in acute patient care areas. They work in collaboration with a C.N.A., charge RN, unit coordinator and physician. LPN staff with a variety of experience and backgrounds work on this unit. We strive to support learning and continuted education with all staff. Complex discharge units have medically stable but complex patients who are pending a safe discharge plan. The LPN must think critically, be able to problem solve and be ready to learn. Excellent communication with teammates and patients is essential. The ability to maintain compassion for this complex patient population is also essential. Responsibilities Assessment : Contributes to and communicates age appropriate admission and daily bio/psycho/social assessments. Collects, reports and records objective and subjective data in an accurate and timely manner. Observes the patient's condition or changes in condition. Documents the observations in a timely, legible and concise manner in accordance with written guidelines. Validates patient classification indicator via required documentation. Analysis: Contributes to the establishment of nursing diagnosis and clinical problem identification. Identifies and reports the significant deviations from the norm to the RN, MD and oncoming shift. Planning: Participates in establishing and updating and individualized plan of care in collaboration with RN, patient and family. Provides data and contributes to the identification of priorities. Involves the patient/family in individualizing/modifying the nursing plan of care in collaboration with the RN. Reviews and updates the nursing plan of care to reflect current patient status by the end of the shift. Implementation: Participates in implementing the planned nursing and medical interventions with knowledge and competence in accordance with written standards of practice. Provides care for patients whose conditions are stable or predictable under minimal supervision of the RN or MD. Cares for patients whose conditions are critical and/or fluctuating under direct supervision of the RN or MD. Carries out the planned interventions with knowledge and competence. This position works in collaboration with physicians to provide complete physical examinations, diagnosis, and treatment of both chronic and episodic disorders. Assigned principal responsibility for primary health care of patients. Seeks the expert opinion or advice of a physician whenever the incumbent decides a case falls outside the scope authorized by policies and protocol. The Nurse Practitioner typically remains responsible for the patient throughout the course of treatment, provides the physical examination, the diagnosis, and the health care plan, determines when the patient has recovered, and releases the patient. The Nurse Practitioner may refer the patient to a physician for consultation or to specialized health resources for treatment, but retains responsibility for clinical management as well as any subsequent modification. Responsibilities Assesses the physical condition of a group of patients by performing physical examinations including ordering, interpreting and evaluating diagnostic tests and obtaining medical histories. Assumes ongoing responsibility for each patient from discovery of the disorder to recovery. Formulates the medical plan and prognosis based on patient's condition. Consults with physician(s) regarding patient health care plans and treatment. Orders, interprets, and evaluates diagnostic tests to identify and assess the patient's clinical problems and health care needs. Performs selected invasive procedures for therapeutic and/or diagnostic reasons within scope of validated competence.
