Job Summary: The medical assistant performs administrative support duties under the direction of the practice manager which may include scheduling appointments, answering the telephone and directing the calls to the appropriate staff, registering patients, collecting and updating patient demographics, verifying health insurance coverage and collecting/processing payments. Clinical duties are performed under the supervision of the physician or mid-level provider and may include obtaining and recording vital signs and medical histories, preparing patients for the examination, drawing blood and administering medications as directed by the physician or mid-level provider. Job Responsibilities: 1. Performs general office duties including registration, medical records, scheduling, telephone tasks and other such duties 2. Performs clinical duties including rooming patients, taking vital signs, recording medical histories, preparing patients for the examination, drawing blood and administering medications as directed by the provider 3. Provides care in a safe and effective manner. 4. Maintains accurate and complete medical records. 5. Demonstrates effective communication skills with patients, families and co-workers. 6. Demonstrates flexibility to meet staffing needs of practice. 7. Maintains a well-organized environment 8. Knowledgeable of insurance requirements and the ability to communicate with the insurers to obtain prior authorization or pre-certification for medical services. 9. Provides scribe services for physician or med-level provider, as needed. Education Requirements and Other Requirements High school graduate or equivalent required. Medical terminology course or background required. Graduate of a medical assistant program required. Experience Requirements Experience in a medical setting. Prior experience as a medical assistant is preferred. Other Requirements Must be able to complete computer work. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are necessary.

Able to initiate and manage a Code C situation. 5. Able to interpret EKG recordings and has the knowledge to monitor and intervene during both stable and life-threatening arrhythmias. 6. Able to recognize, assist, maintain, and troubleshoot a patient requiring ventilatory measures. 7. Maintains valid ACLS certification as required by Community Memorial Hospital. 8. Maintains awareness of comfort and safety needs of patients and visitors. 9. Observes patient and documents change in condition, adverse reactions, and any required reportable incidents. Notifies the supervisor and provider of change in patient’s condition, adverse reaction, or reportable incident. 10. Takes patient’s temperature, pulse, blood pressure, and other vital signs to detect deviations from normal and assess condition of patient as ordered by provider and as needed for change in condition. 11. Responds to life saving situations based upon nursing standards, policies, procedures, and protocol. 12. Accurately documents nursing history and physical assessment for assigned patients. 13. Initiates a patient education plan according to the individualized needs of the patient, as prescribed by Physician and/or hospital policy including patient and family instructions. 14. Demonstrates knowledge and principles of PI (performance improvement plan) and application of systematic improvement process. 15. Provides care in the Pain Management environment directed toward meeting both psychosocial and physical needs of the patient. Functions as a resource person and teacher. Proficient in pain management guidelines and medication dosing. 16. Demonstrates professionalism regarding dress code and personal hygiene. 17. Demonstrates a concern to others, takes time to illustrate care and understanding, exemplifies expected behaviors, promotes team concepts, and actively contributes toward conflict resolution. 18.
