About this Job: Unit Details The Neonatal ICU at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital, a five-time designated Magnet® hospital, is a 36-bed unit which provides expert nursing care for infants with many critical diagnoses. It is one of two Level IV NICUs in Washington, D.C., which is the highest level designated by the American Academy of Pediatrics. Some of the most seen diagnoses are: Respiratory Distress Syndrome Extreme Prematurity Neonatal Encephalopathy Persistent Pulmonary Hypertension Sepsis/Septic Shock Neurological Disorders Genetic and/or Metabolic Disorders Gastrointestinal Disorders Surgical needs Ours is the only NICU in the Washington, D.C. region where a Clinical Nurse can participate in high-risk deliveries, be trained as an ECMO tech and participate in both flight and ground transports. About this Job: Unit Highlights Join the exceptional Beacon Award Winning Nursing team on MedStar Georgetown University Hospital’s Solid Organ Transplant & Hepatology Intermediate Care Unit (S42) in the recently opened Verstandig Pavilion, situated on Georgetown University's campus. The cutting-edge Verstandig Pavilion is equipped with all-private inpatient rooms and state-of-the-art medical equipment, ensuring an environment that prioritizes excellence in patient care. The Transplant IMC shares a floor with its own Surgical Transplant Intensive Care Unit (ICU), promoting seamless patient throughput between different acuities. This 28-bed unit has been recognized by the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) with a BEACON Award for Excellence through 2026. Clinical Nurses on S42 provide expert care to acutely ill adults that are waiting for or have recently received a solid organ transplant (liver, kidney, pancreas, intestine) or have undergone other hepatobiliary surgeries (TACE, liver resection, Whipple). MedStar Georgetown is one of only six centers in the United States that perform intestinal transplants and averages over 100 liver transplants per year. At MedStar Georgetown we also perform kidney and pancreas transplants and serve patients regionally, nationally, and internationally. Additional medical diagnoses include end-stage renal disease, end-stage liver failure, hepatitis, chest pain, cardiac arrhythmias, sepsis, CHF, and GI bleeds. All beds are equipped to provide continuous cardiac and pulse oximetry bedside monitoring, and nurses are essential in managing high-risk medications and performing in-depth discharge teaching. Nurses work with the interdisciplinary team - including physicians, pharmacists, and nurse practitioners - to deliver intense pre- and post-surgical care that is focused on infection prevention and patient education. About this Job: Schedule: 7am-3:30pm 1st Thursday's / 8am-4:30pm Mon-Fri General Summary of Position The Medical Assistant performs clinical and administrative duties in an ambulatory care setting under the supervision of a physician/provider and/or a registered nurse. Duties may include venipuncture medication and vaccine administration measurement and documentation of vital signs and assisting providers with patient exams and telephone and clerical support.
