Job Description Job Summary: The Clinical Nurse B-Hematology/Oncology Infusion Center (Infusion Cntr) specializes in caring for patients with problems related to neoplastic diseases, such as leukemia/lymphoma, sarcoma's, neuroblastoma, brain tumors, blood disorders such as sickle cell disease, hemophilia, aplastic anemia, and blood and marrow transplantation. Utilizes discretion and independent judgment to prioritize, coordinate, provide and document direct/indirect age-specific and developmentally appropriate quality patient-centered care in the outpatient environment with minimal supervision. Administers complex and advanced chemotherapy, biological agents, medications, blood products, and other supportive infusion therapies for all specialty services as ordered by physicians. Performs the nursing process (assessment, care planning, intervention, evaluation) in accordance with Loma Linda University Children's Hospital's (LLUCHs) established Professional Practice Model (Duffy's Quality Caring Theory) to achieve individualized physical, psychosocial and spiritual wellness and provide compassionate bereavement support as needed. Applies theoretical concepts to clinical practice and exhibits self-motivation to continually expand knowledge base and clinical skills with a focus in area of specialty. Functions within the expectations of a professional nurse and meets nursing excellence standards to maintain Magnet Recognition as outlined by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. Represents nursing as an empowered profession and readily embraces new knowledge, innovations and improvements. Provides a positive influence to facilitate change and optimize patient satisfaction and outcomes. Education and Experience: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing required for external hires. Exception(s) may be granted as follows: 1) if currently enrolled in a nursing bridge program (AS degree to DNP degree), proof of 25% program completion required. DNP degree to be completed two and a half years post hire date. Exception to completion date may be granted for extenuating circumstances; 2) if employed in a LLUH entity with an Associate or Diploma Degree at time of application, AS or Diploma degree is acceptable. Minimum of one year experience in nursing required. The CN-B is eligible to be promoted into the CN-C classification when criteria outlined in the Clinical Advancement Program (CAP) handbook and job specifications outlined in CN-C job description are met. Job Description Department: MC: Transplant Core Job Summary: The Coordinator RN Transplant 1 performs the nursing process (assessment, care planning, intervention, evaluation) independently and with high level of expertise within the nursing scope of practice for pediatric and adult patients with various stages of single solid organ failure. Evaluates assigned patients for pre transplant work up and reviews data to ensure the patient meets inclusion criteria. Coordinates the initial intake evaluation meeting with the healthcare team, patient, and family. Provides pre and post transplant education to transplant candidates, regarding transplant evaluation process, waiting period until suitable organ is found, immunosuppressive therapy and side effects, signs and symptoms of organ rejection, importance of commitment and compliance to long term and postoperative follow-up. Seeks assistance from Coordinator RN Transplant 2 and or 3 when necessary. Coordinates pre-transplant hospital admissions and alerts involved departments to ensure transplant teams and OR suites are set up and ready. Participates in developing the interdisciplinary plan of care follows post-transplant patients closely to assess for signs/symptom of possible rejection. Works collaboratively with the patients/families, physicians, case managers and social workers regarding discharge and utilizes multiple discharge and continuity of care resources as indicated.
