Interprets and evaluates clinical data to determine appropriate diagnosis and need for therapeutic procedures or treatment. Consults with supervising physician or designee to provide health care services for conditions other than acute self-limited or well-defined problems. Establishes a plan of care/treatment and provides counseling and clear instructions to the patient regarding mental and physical health using jointly agreed upon procedures and protocols by PA and supervisory physician. Assists with or performs surgical procedures at the direction of the supervising physician; performs hospital rounds and documents patient progress notes as appropriate. Makes appropriate specialty referrals for patient treatment outside of scope of practice. Administers, dispenses, prescribes drugs and medications and/or medical supplies or therapies consistent with both supervising physician and own skill, training, education and competence and within the scope of practice of both.
