Provides functional direction and assistance to LPN's and CNA's or MA's, and completes new staff orientation as assigned. Makes rounds on a timely basis to ensure continuity of care. Maintains HIPAA compliance at all times. Follows and performs all related unit specific policies and procedures, as detailed on the unit specific competency check-list. Position Summary Provides specialized surgical technology support for adult cardiovascular and open-heart patients in an acute care hospital setting. Functions as a member of the cardiovascular operating room (CVOR) team during open-heart, coronary artery bypass graft (CABG), valve, thoracic, and other cardiovascular procedures. Prepares the operating room, establishes and maintains the sterile field, anticipates the needs of the surgeon, and ensures required instruments, supplies, and equipment are available and functioning. Performs or assists with vein harvesting, including endoscopic vein harvesting (EVH), consistent with demonstrated competency, hospital policy, and applicable scope of practice. Communicates and collaborates with surgeons, registered nurses, anesthesia providers, perfusionists, and other Open Heart team members. Participates in emergency cases, on-call coverage, room turnover, equipment maintenance, inventory management, performance improvement activities, and orientation/precepting of surgical technologists joining the CVOR team. Orders and interprets diagnostic and therapeutic tests relative to patient’s age-specific needs. Prescribes appropriate pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatment modalities 5. Implements interventions to support the patient to regain or maintain physiologic stability. Assists with the provision of care in accordance with facility, state, and federal regulations. Monitors the effectiveness of interventions. Facilitates the patient’s transition within and between health care settings, e.g. admitting, transferring, and discharging patients. Collaborates with multidisciplinary team members by making appropriate referrals. Facilitates staff, patient and family decision making by providing educational tools. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets. CORE QUALIFICATIONS Education: Master's degree in relevant field required Certification and Licensing: Valid State of Florida APRN license required Refer to department description for applicable certification requirements Experience: (3)years’ experience as Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNPC-AG) and greater five (5) years in ICU- cardiac or cardiothoracic preferred. Any appropriate combination of relevant education, certification(s) and/or work experience may be considered.
