How you'll contribute A Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) who excels in this role: Assists medical staff in carrying out plans for care of patients. Determines nursing care needs of the patient. Develops implements and updates nursing care plans in an outpatient setting. Coordinates and orients new nursing personnel with regards to office set-up, requirements, associated activities and procedures. Coordinates special activities with the hospital i.e. direct admissions from the office or any other unique requirements. Handles patient telephone inquiries. Telephones prescription order to pharmacy, as needed. Enters complete and accurate information into an electronic medical record. Transcribes lab and other medical data into the EMR, as needed. Performs phlebotomy and on-site laboratory tests. Performs laboratory maintenance. Performs special tests, i.e. audiometry, eye tests, pulmonary functions and EKG's Inventory and order medical supplies, as needed. Orients Medical Students and Residents to office protocol and procedures. The class runs approximately 4-6 weeks. Listed on the state registry as a Nursing Assistant within 120 days of employment. Motivation and desire to work with geriatric persons. Ability to speak English at a level the residents can understand. Ability to read and write in English to carry out functions related to the care plans and provides appropriate resident care. Physical Requirements: Must be able to constantly work on their feet during an 8 hour shift; bend, stoop, twist, and turn constantly throughout the shift in performing regular duties. Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds of resident weight and/or transfer and reposition a resident at least 25 times throughout the shift. Must be able to react quickly and decisively in emergencies and in response to the unexpected behavior of residents either during lifting or repositioning or during other frequent occasions when having direct contact with residents. Must be able to handle the physical transfer of residents from unsafe to safer locations in the event of a fire or other disaster. Ability to do sequential events/tasks.
