Department Overview The Department of Pediatric / Division of Pediatric Neonatology is recruiting for a full-time APP for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at PeaceHealth Southwest. Function/Duties of Position The appointee shall provide services as assigned by the supervisor in furtherance of the university’s missions and goals of teaching, research, patient care, outreach and public service. The Clinical Faculty APP delivers care aligned with a defined scope of practice in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at PeaceHealth Southwest, with work expectations operationalized through departmental workflows, productivity standards, and performance expectations consistent with the collective bargaining agreement (CBA) and institutional policies. Working as part of our Oncology team that is on the cutting edge of cancer care and treatment, our Medical Assistants play a crucial role in the daily patient flow, assisting a specific Physician/APP. Assisting with rooming patients, taking vitals, and communications on behalf of the provider, our MA’s play a crucial role in the Cancer Care Continuum. Job Scope: Under direct supervision, assists physicians and clinicians with patient care duties in a clinical environment. Promotes efficient patient flow and patient care (i.e. exams, and procedures). Performs clinic support tasks including miscellaneous clerical tasks, answering phones, and maintaining physician’s schedule. Supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, to include the Code of Ethics and Business Standards. Responsibilities Escorts patients to and from exam rooms, physician offices, and treatment room as appropriate. Records patient data prior to each physician visit, including but not limited to, vital signs, height, weight, allergies, and medication changes. Obtains all necessary patient records as required by physician prior to treatment or procedures. Prepares and stocks exam/treatment rooms and orders supplies as needed. Assists physicians with exams and procedures as requested. Administers subcutaneous and intramuscular injections, including but not limited to, hormones and biological growth factors. Maintains all exam/treatment room disinfection protocols. Processes instruments and equipment as needed. Answers patient telephone calls for referral to physician or nurse/pharmacist. Phones in prescriptions and makes other patient calls as required or directed by physicians. Schedules patient tests, procedures and hospital admissions and schedules appointments to follow-upon test results, as applicable. Obtains new patient records and previous test results, x-rays, scans, etc. Performs other administrative duties, i.e. typing, filing faxing reception, etc, as requested by supervisor or physician. Qualifications Education: High school graduate or equivalent. Certificate of graduation from an accredited program for Medical Assistants preferred. Current CPR certification required. Experience/Training: Minimum (1-3) years of experience as a medical assistant or nursing assistant, preferred. Phlebotomy experience preferred. Answer patient questions regarding their care and keep them informed of their status. Inform technical staff of patient flow. Prepare patients for examination, which includes conducting interviews to verify patient information, record medical history; confirm purpose of visit; Perform preliminary physical test (blood pressure, weight, temperature, etc.) for vital signs and escalate critical cases to provider as needed. Conduct point of care testing as needed (i.e., flu, strep, urinalysis, ECG, HCG); and provide patient information to provider. Responsible for stocking supplies and maintenance of exam rooms, front desk, and reception area; ensure providers have medical supplies needed. Responsible for completing order sheets to maintain supply inventory levels; regularly check expiration dates on supplies. Responsible for maintenance of medical records and scanning charts to patient files. Answer phone calls, collect and sort daily incoming and outgoing postal correspondence Ensure reception is well maintained Conduct courtesy call-backs for patient follow-up. Perform opening and closing duties, which includes cashing out, end-of-day communication, and securing the building. Follow operating instructions to perform and document daily controls and calibration of equipment; maintain Quality Assurance/Quality Control logs for equipment troubleshoot breakdowns, perform preventive maintenance, and submit repair tickets as needed.
