Job Details St. Francis Hospital Critical Care Advanced Practice Provider (APP) is a valuable team member. Primary responsibility is the management of critically ill and complex (multi-organ) patients in an intensive care setting. This setting includes the management of patients in the Cardiothoracic ICU (CTICU), Surgical ICU (SICU), Medical ICU (MICU) and Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU). The APP is under the direct supervision of an in-hospital 24/7 Critical Care board certified Intensivist program. The APP performs physical exams, collects and documents data, conducts approved diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, orders and schedules laboratory studies and professional consultations, prescribes appropriate interventions and medications, and provides direct patient care services in a specific ICU. Responsibilities: Provide direct clinical services for critically ill adult patients with multi-system disease /failure, according to established protocols and evidence-based clinical practice standards. Obtain patient health histories and complete physical examinations. Document findings, noting pertinent normal and abnormal findings. Order and interpret appropriate diagnostic and laboratory tests. Explain the necessity, preparation, nature and anticipated effects of procedure(s) to patients, patient's family, staff, and healthcare interdisciplinary team members. Perform approved therapeutic or diagnostic procedures based upon patient's clinical status. Formulate and implement a treatment plan for acute illness management in collaboration with the designated primary supervising physician and/or the intensivist. Utilize prescriptive privileges as allowed by NY licensure. Assess patient for change in status and institute appropriate interventions. Initiate necessary emergency interventions to stabilize patient. Participate in our Clinical Education and Science Simulation center for onboarding and strengthening of both didactic and procedural skill sets. Develop procedural skill sets and continued competency including placement of central lines, pulmonary artery catheters, hemodialysis catheters, trans-venous pacing wires, arterial lines, PICC lines and mid lines. Other complex management includes mechanical support devices such as Impella, Left Ventricular Assist Devices (LVAD), and Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO). Utilize current research and evidence- based decision-making in all clinical practice Incorporate clinical research findings in the development and implementation of standards of care and support IRB approved clinical research/trials though a variety of activities. Participate in quality/performance improvement activities and measures. Serve as a clinical expert and leadership consultant to members of the healthcare team and to the larger community. Participate in and support accreditation, compliance, and regulatory activities of the organization. Identify educational needs of the patient / family and participate in teaching opportunities. Assess, plan, provide, and evaluate educational needs / programs our interdisciplinary healthcare teams and community. Precept APP students and other new healthcare team members. Role model professionalism through conduct, appearance, communication, mutual respect, leadership, ethical decision-making, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. Demonstrate responsibility for professional practice through active participation in professional organizations and continuing education. Enhance the body of knowledge to the APP profession or other areas of specialization through exchange of ideas and knowledge in professional organizations, oral presentations, posters, research activities, and written publications. Requirements: PA - Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program, minimum Bachelor’s degree required NP – Current RN license and current AANP or ANCC certification Experience PA – Will consider new grad with relevant PA electives or clinical background NP – Will consider new grad with Acute Nurse Practitioner certification (ACNP) Certification: Physician Assistant Certified (PA-C) or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner certification (ACNP) BLS/ACLS/AED training required and accepted from only 2 organizations: American Heart Association - BLS/ACLS for Healthcare Providers (CPR & AED) Program No online programs from any organization will be accepted. Description The Medical Assistant I provides clinical office support to physicians and surgeons and performs patient care and administrative duties necessary to deliver quality patient care. Focus of tasks include basic rooming of patient, EKGs, Point of Care Testing and EPIC documentation. Enters orders into the electronic medical record EPIC system or prepares prescription refill requests on behalf of the physician for the review and approval by the ordering physician. Inventories, orders or re-stocks medical supplies as applicable. Provides set-up of examination room and instruments in accordance with proper sterilization techniques established by hospital and infection control policies. Checks expiration dates on all medications and medical supplies disposing appropriately as per institution policy. Maintains a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures; complies with legal regulations. Complies with established personal protective equipment requirements necessary for protection against exposure to blood and other potentially infections body fluids, chemical disinfectants, radiation and other hazardous substances.
