Scheduled Hours 40 Position Summary This position is for a full-time Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner, working under the Department of Radiology, Ground Floor Clinic in the Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology at WashU. Once trained, you will be independently managing outpatient care, care coordination with providers, and occasional minor procedures, within the scope of practice delineated by the supervising physician. The primary focus of this role will be seeing new patients and follow-ups in clinic with the goal of growing our service lines in interventional oncology, peripheral vascular disease, venous disease, portal hypertension, women’s health, and men’s health. Additionally, this position will also occasionally cross cover our inpatient rounding and consult service at Barnes Jewish Hospital and Missouri Baptist Hospital. Prior clinic work history and experience in vascular surgery or radiology is preferred. Motivated new grads are welcome to apply. Job Description Primary Duties & Responsibilities: Provides direct patient care to include obtaining patient history, performing patient assessment via observation, interview and examination; orders, performs and interprets diagnostic studies; performs preventative health assessments, screenings, immunizations and care; provides direct treatment and management of acute and chronic disease conditions; develops and implements patient-centered plan of care in collaboration with physicians, patients, consultants, nurses, ancillary care providers and others as appropriate to the patient's condition. May bill for services covered by collaborative practice agreement. Provides counseling and education of patients and their families/caregivers concerning disease management, complication prevention, disease prevention, and quality of life improvement measures, and outcome management activities. Monitors/ensures accuracy of patient medical records; maintains all required reports, records, statistics, etc. Maintains a safe, comfortable and therapeutic environment for patients/families in accordance with established clinic/hospital standards. Manages health conditions via prescriptive authority or referral to other healthcare providers or community resources; may perform diagnostic or therapeutic interventions consistent with certification and state regulations. Champions the safety and quality of care for patients using ITB therapy and serves as an expert in the care and management of ITB pumps. Helps develop a detailed educational program for the patients and lead the quality and safety initiative for the program. Serves as clinical expert regarding rehabilitation nursing while demonstrating a high level of autonomy and expert skill in complex clinical nursing situations. Provides management services for clinical research study projects; monitors participating subjects, including medication administration and family/patient education. Works in accordance with established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance programs, and safety, environmental and infection control standards. Regularly participates in constant quality improvement and process improvement activities centered on the goal of providing exceptional, evidence-based patient care. Enhances professional growth and development through educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings and workshops. Contributes to the advancement of the rehabilitation nursing profession as a whole through research, publications, and presentations. Performs other duties as assigned. Patients admitted to the 8th floor are acutely ill with medical problems whose primary reason for admission include but are not limited to Renal Failure, CHF, Pneumonia, COPD, Sepsis, Dehydration, Diabetes Mellitus, MI, Angioplasty, S/P Cardiac Catheterization, Cardiac Arrhythmias, Direct Admits along with Post-op surgical patients. Preferred Qualifications Role Purpose The Graduate Nurse provides direct patient care activities including assessment, diagnosis, planning implementation, and evaluation within the guidelines of the standards of nursing care after completing a nursing program and before licensure. Will be required to obtain licensure within 90 days of graduation from an accredited school of nursing to remain employed in a HSO in the state of Missouri. Responsibilities Promotes patient and family centered care in a healing environment. Educates patients and their families on how to manage their illness or injury, including post treatment home care needs and medication administration. Position Highlights Monday-Friday clinic schedule Clinic hours: 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Part-time position - 32hrs/week Outpatient-focused practice Average of 8 patients per day Providers manage their own patient panel Minimal call responsibilities with infrequent urgent patient needs System-wide EMR Comprehensive benefits including health, dental, vacation, 401k, and CME Relocation assistance and Malpractice insurance All patient care is delivered in the outpatient setting, with inpatient involvement limited to communication regarding outpatient referrals. Responsibilities Conduct comprehensive palliative care assessments Facilitate goals-of-care and advanced care planning discussions Manage symptoms and improve quality of life for patients with serious illnesses Collaborate with physicians, nursing staff, social workers, and other interdisciplinary team members Coordinate care transitions and community resources Provide compassionate support and education to patients and families Qualifications Nurse Practitioner Master's or Doctorate in Nursing Board Certification as a Nurse Practitioner Eligible for Missouri licensure Physician Assistant Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program NCCPA certification Eligible for Missouri licensure Preferred Experience Candidates should have a strong level of comfort discussing goals of care and serious illness management. Experience in hospice, palliative care, oncology, geriatrics, or related fields is strongly preferred.
