JOB SUMMARY Salary Range: $262,000–$300,000 annually The Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) administers general, regional and monitored anesthesia care for scheduled and emergency surgical and obstetrical procedures and perform anesthesia-related procedures. The CRNA evaluates, formulates, and carries out an anesthesia care plan including monitoring and recording patient reaction to anesthesia and modifying the anesthetic plan accordingly. The CRNA transports patients to and from an anesthetizing location and ensures appropriate care during the postoperative period. The CRNA may supervise, instruct, and provide feedback to student nurse anesthetists to ensure patient safety. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Provides pre-anesthetic preparation and patient evaluation. Ensures patient identification and obtains appropriate health history. Recommends, requests, and evaluates pertinent diagnostic studies. Documents pre-anesthetic evaluation. Obtains informed consent for anesthesia. Selects and/or administers pre-anesthetic medications. Provides anesthesia induction, maintenance, emergence, and post anesthesia care. Inserts invasive line catheter/devices. Performs tracheal intubation and extubation, airway management. Provides mechanical ventilation. Performs venous and arterial punctures. Obtains blood samples. Performs and manages regional anesthetic. Manages patient’s fluid, blood, electrolyte and acid base balance. Provides perianesthetic invasive and non-invasive monitoring utilizing current standards and techniques. Responds to abnormal findings with corrective action. Recognizes and treats cardiac dysrhythmias through use of perianesthetic electrocardiogram monitoring. Evaluates patient response during emergence from anesthesia. Institutes pharmacological or supportive treatment to insure adequacy of patient recovery from anesthesia and adjuvant drugs. Provides post anesthesia follow-up, report, and evaluation of patient’s response to anesthesia and for potential anesthetic complication. Identifies and manages emergency situations. Initiates or participates in cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Performs or orders equipment safety checks as needed. Cleans and sterilizes equipment and notifies supervisor of needed equipment adjustments/repairs. May perform patient care to the extent necessary to maintain clinical expertise, competency and licensing necessary to fulfill job responsibilities and to direct the provision of care. Provides ice water at least once every shift to bedside for patients who are able to have ice water. Removes additional fluids from patients on fluid restrictions. Offers/Provides bath, linen change to patients who require assistance or complete care, and documents on activity record. Notifies licensed personnel if patient refuses bath and/or linen change, and documents on activity record. Obtain intake and output as directed by physician or plan of care. Update patient board in room daily. Assists in admission process by obtaining vital signs, providing personal care items and room orientation. Utilization of critical thinking skills in prioritization of care. Ability to identify changes in patient condition and notifies licensed personnel of any change in patient condition. Provide safe environment. Documents all patient and family teaching as requested/necessary. Demonstrates correct use and troubleshooting of equipment. Participates in the development, prioritization, and evaluation of individualized plan of care. Assist in modification of plan based on patient's response. Provides information directly to the physician and documents appropriately. Ability to take directions from licensed and administrative professionals. Attempts to resolve conflict independently, if unable, seeks the assistance of department leader. Provides health care at the best value without compromising patient care. Utilizes the Pyxis appropriately, obtains items under specific patient's name and returns unused items. Responsible and accountable for all actions. Assist with chart completion and copying of all paperwork. Coordinates with nursing supervisor and/or materials management for supply items that cannot be obtained from the Pyxis. Ensures chart is documented and changes are added to the patient charge sheet. Provides assistance to the physician during examination of patient. Transports patient to procedures as needed.
