General Summary: Under the direction of the Office Manager, the Medical Assistant performs administrative and clinical duties to care for patients in an ambulatory setting. Administrative duties include maintaining medical records, handling patient calls and completing forms. Cleans rooms between patient visits in accordance with infection prevention and control standards. Administers medications and immunizations under authorization and supervision of physicians and/or advance practice providers. Processes messages from patients and front office staff to physicians and advance practice providers. Processes messages and call backs to patients, medical offices and pharmacies. Processes medication refills according to protocols. Maintains all logs and required checks (i.e. refrigerator temperature, emergency medications, expired medications, oxygen, sterilization fluid charge etc.) Performs EKG’s and simple (CLIA waived testing) medical office laboratory and screening tests. Grand Rapids, MI 49525. This is our primary location where we see a mix of adult patients Monday through Friday, 8am – 5pm. The providers practice out of the Clear Vista, Grand Haven Center, Big Rapids locations. There is currently one physician assistant that see patients at the Grand Haven Center in Grand Haven, MI 3 days/week. There is currently one physician that sees patients two days a week in Big Rapids and a physician assistant that will be seeing patients two days a week in Big Rapids soon. This campus is the perfect place to gain experience as a new nurse and grow your career! The patient population in Big Rapids is very diverse, it consists of primarily hospitalist medicine patients with a wide variety of diagnosis, some of which include: pneumonia, COPD, cellulitis, kidney failure, and bowel obstructions. These diagnoses provide the opportunity to develop acute care skills such as IV placement, chest tubes and NG placement/management. In our critical care unit it is common to see high acuity patients with sepsis, hyperglycemia and respiratory failure whose plan of care would include managing medication drips (insulin, vasopressors, etc.) and the utilization of equipment such as ventilators and BIPAPs. Big Rapids has a well-established team that works collaboratively with an interdisciplinary team that includes hospitalists, care managers, social workers, pharmacy, nurse techs, physical therapists, and occupational therapists to provide quality care for our patients. We have a good mix of experienced RNs that work alongside our education team to provide our new hires and grads with a great onboarding experience. Job Summary As a member of the nursing team with Corewell Health, providing top-notch patient care is paramount.
