Medicare home health or hospice experience is preferred. Uses Standard Universal Precautions, appropriate hand hygiene, personal protective equipment, and safe practices to ensure personal safety and a safe environment. 10. Assists with environmental hazard and infection control surveillance and participates in emergency preparedness drills. 11. Follows all equipment and safety guidelines and is responsible for knowledgeable use and care of equipment. 12. Serves as a resource to other members of the health care team. 13. Maintains a safe sterile field by: a – positioning sharps correctly b – labeling all medications on sterile field c – understanding of electrocautery and other devices that generate heat to prevent possible fires in the O.R. d – Participating in a “timeout” with rest of the surgical team to maintain patient safety. Demonstrates ability to appropriately set up for a surgical/ endo procedure and follow protocol in the counting of supplies/instrument to ensure no foreign object is left inside of the patient. Understands the principles of and is able to competently assist a physician during a procedure and possesses adequate knowledge of the procedure itself. Displays the ability to differentiate sutures and their applications. Demonstrates the ability to follow through until problems are addressed or corrected. Alert to the detection of errors in own work and the work of others with appropriate corrective actions initiated. Demonstrates a teamwork approach in the care of a patient during the perioperative phase. Participates in department’s process improvement activities. Job Description We are searching for a Registered Nurse for our Surgical/Ortho/Trauma unit – someone who works well in a fast-paced setting. 11WT is a 36 bed surgical/orthopedic/trauma unit. The unit consists of 32 general admission beds and 4 designated trauma beds. 11WT receives a wide array of surgical patients from a variety of surgical services. General Surgery: appendectomies, hernia repairs, pectus repairs, tumor resections Orthopedic Surgery: spinal fusions, bone fractures, osteotomies Urology Surgery: ureteral re-implants, nephrectomies, bladder augmentations Plastic Surgery: cleft lip and/or palate repairs, rhinoplasties, brachial plexus repairs ENT Surgery: Tonsillectomy, adenoidectomy, PE Tube placement, cochlear implants The 4 trauma beds are used for patients who have sustained a multisystem or severe injury from some sort of trauma. You may also see minor trauma patients throughout the unit. Some of the types of trauma that we see are motor vehicle accidents, auto-pedestrian accidents, ATV accidents, gunshot wounds, sports injuries, and child abuse. What does the Float Pool Registered Nurse (RN) do? The Float Pool RN provides professional nursing care in alignment with national standards, company guidelines, and the US Oncology Compliance Program, including the Code of Ethics and Business Standards. The Float Pool RN will serve as a clinical resource and liaison while adapting quickly to diverse assignments. Responsibilities The essential duties and responsibilities: (including but not limited to) Assess, plan, coordinate, and evaluate patient care. Conduct health assessments, obtain patient histories, and provide patient/family education. Offer psychosocial support to patients and families. Safely prepare and administer medications, blood products, and therapies in accordance with governing standards. Perform venipuncture, access ports, and maintain central lines. Monitor labs, facilitate dose modifications per protocol, and consult with providers for treatment orders. Manage triage calls, symptom management, and medication documentation. Assist patients in accessing community resources. Cross-train and expand into subspecialty areas (e.g., Gyn Onc, BMT, Pediatrics) as the Float Pool evolves. Follow the Nursing Float Pool Playbook for role- and assignment-specific expectations. Qualifications The ideal candidate will have the following background and experience: Education/Training Level I Graduate from an accredited program for professional nursing education, BSN preferred. RN state license and current registration with the State Board of Nursing in practicing state. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Must maintain continuing education requirements. Minimum one (1) year of experience. Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN®) or prior oncology/infusion/radiation experience strongly preferred. Strong IV and central line skills preferred. Comfort supporting multiple areas of oncology care, with interest in developing skills in subspecialties such as Gyn Onc, BMT, or Pediatrics. Excellent critical thinking and communication abilities. Comfort with EHR systems (OncoEMR, Epic, or similar). Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus. Flexibility, adaptability, and strong interpersonal skills to thrive in diverse clinical environments. Level II In addition to level I: Minimum three (3) years of nursing experience, oncology experience strongly preferred Level Senior In addition to levels I and II: Minimum five (5) years nursing experience, including at least one year in oncology strongly preferred Working Conditions: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
