Job Description: Seeking a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) to collaborate with our patients and staff to uphold compassionate clinical care and clerical support. Summary Provides direct and indirect patient care in the maternity services department including labor, delivery, postpartum, triage and NICU. Communicates with physicians/Nurse Manager/charge nurse/co-workers, as appropriate about changes in patient’s clinical condition. Is able to respond quickly and accurately to changes in condition. Additionally, is able to perform general nursing duties in all Maternity Care departments. Primarily caring for the following patients: antepartum, laboring, delivery, cesarean, (including circulating), recovery, postpartum mother/baby care, newborn admissions, and triage. Ability to float to NICU as needed, taking care of NICU patients assigned appropriately. Is flexible and able to change assignments easily as admissions and deliveries occur. Ability to perform a head-to-toe assessment on all patients and reassessments as per policy. This includes: antepartum, postpartum, and newborns. Ability to adequately assess and reassess pain. Utilizes appropriate pain management techniques. Educates the patient and family regarding pain management. Ability to revise plan of care as indicated by the patient’s response to treatment and evaluate overall plan daily for effectiveness. Ability to perform waived testing (point-of-care testing) per Clinical Laboratory’s and the resident care unit’s policies and procedures. Ability to interpret results of waived tests; take appropriate action on waived tests results. Performs patient care responsibilities considering needs specific to the standard of care for patient’s age. Knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on age of the patient and their clinical condition. Follows the five (5) medication rights and reduces the potential for medication errors. Formulates a teaching plan based upon identified learning needs and evaluates effectiveness of learning, family is included in teaching as appropriate. Demonstrates an ability to assist physicians with procedures and performs services requiring technical and manual skills. Demonstrates ability to perform treatments and provide services to level licensure. Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity. Identifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic and religious/spiritual needs of patients and their families. Functions as liaison between administration, patients, physicians and other healthcare providers. Interacts professionally with patient/family and involves patient/family in the formation of the plan of care. Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and the skills necessary to provide age appropriate care to the patient population served. Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors. Demonstrates knowledge in fetal heart monitoring principles and practices. Consults other departments as appropriate to provide for an interdisciplinary approach to the patient’s needs. Communicates appropriately and clearly to Nurse Manager, co-workers and physicians. Maintains a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments. Identifies and addresses psychosocial needs of patients and family; communicates with Social Service/Discharge Planner regarding both in hospital and post discharge needs. Education/Experience: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Current Nebraska Registered Nurse Licensure. Current BLS certification. Summary Provides direct and indirect patient care under the direction of a RN or physician. Assists patients with activities of daily living, provides for personal care, emotional support and performs more complex clinical skills under the direction of a RN. Provide secretarial functions as needed for unit to function. Performs patient care responsibilities considering needs specific to the standard of care for patient's age. Provides care appropriate to condition and age of patient, including pediatric, geriatric and the general patient population. Provides patient care that meets the psychosocial and physical needs of the patient within the CNA's scope of practice. Assists with patient admissions, discharge and transfers. Provides morning care which may include bed bath, shower, whirlpool, oral hygiene, combing hair, back care, dressing patients, changing bed linen, cleaning overbed table and bedside stand, straightening room and other general care as necessary throughout the shift. Provides evening care which includes hands/face washing as needed, oral hygiene, back rubs, peri-care, freshening linen, cleaning overbed tables, straightening room and other general care as needed. Provides general nursing care such as positioning patients, lifting and turning patients, applying/utilizing special equipment, assisting in use of bedpan, commode and ambulating patients. Prepares patients for meals; serves and removes food trays and assists with meals or feeds patients if necessary. Distributes drinking water and snacks to patients as applicable. Answers patients' call lights, anticipates patients' needs and makes rounds of assigned patients. Transports patients to various departments for ordered tests/procedures. Demonstrates the ability to perform procedures within the CNA II's scope of practice per state law. Takes and records temperature, pulse, respiration, weight, blood pressure and intake-output. Job Description: Seeking a talented RN to join our team in Labor & Delivery. This position works under general supervision while assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating the nursing care required to meet the needs of the patient. Job duties include (but not limited to): Performs complete patient assessments and communicates to the providers. Documents and maintains accurate nursing records. Functions as patient advocate between patient, physicians, other healthcare providers, administration, etc., as needed, and interacts professionally with patients and family members. Initiates diagnostic, preventative and rehabilitative nursing procedures as appropriate to the patient's care and safety. Administers medications to patients in accordance with approved standards of nursing knowledge and competency, based on age of patient, patient's clinical condition and physician orders. Other duties as assigned. LABOR AND DELIVERY RN specific duties include: Conducts complete history and assessment of the pregnant woman for confirmation of active labor and identification of risk factors. Provides continuous assessment and physical and emotional support for the woman in labor and her supportive person, including relaxation and breathing techniques and other non-pharmacological methods of pain control used for each stage of labor. Provides appropriate fetal assessment by periodic FHR auscultation and EFM, both externally and internally. Demonstrates knowledge of reassuring and non-reassuring FHR patterns and provides appropriate interventions and evaluation. Assists primary caregiver with insertion of IUPC and management of amnioinfusion. Provides assessments, interventions and evaluations of the woman experiencing augmentation and induction of labor and chemical cervical ripening. Provides assistance as needed to the anesthesia provider. Monitors the effects of analgesia and anesthesia on the mother and her fetus and provides appropriate interventions and evaluation. Prepares the delivery area to provide a safe and secure environment for vaginal or Cesarean birth. Circulates during vaginal and Cesarean birth to provide assistance to the primary care giver and surgical team as directed and provides care of the mother and her support person(s). Provides assistance with forceps and vacuum delivery if needed. Assists with the care of the newborn as needed. Documents identification of the newborn and all observations and procedures. Provides assessment and support of the newly delivery patient (vaginal or Cesarean birth) using knowledge of the physiologic and psychological adaptation during this period. Recognizes deviation from normal and initiates appropriate intervention. Assesses the breastfeeding mother to begin as soon as both are stable and identifies breastfeeding problems and takes appropriate nursing actions. Makes referral to lactation consultant as necessary. Initiates appropriate intervention. Provides ongoing planning and education throughout the hospital stay, to prepare for self care and family adjustment. Assesses the educational needs of the family and identifies barriers to learning. Assesses bonding and promotes positive bonding behaviors. Makes referrals as necessary. Recognizes emergency situations such as precipitous birth, prolapsed cord, ruptured uterus or hemorrhagic disorders and intervenes appropriately. Collaborates with primary caregiver and implements a plan of care for the high risk intrapartum patient with hypertension in pregnancy, and other medical, surgical and emotional problems such as: infection, diabetes, cardiac disease, autoimmune disorders, trauma and depression. Helps meet the special needs of the woman and her family experiencing loss and grief. Prepares and assists with transfer of high risk obstetrical patients to Level III medical centers. Provides postoperative care and teaching for the gynecological and ophthalmology patients. Attains competency in Fetal Heart Rate monitoring. Completes OB Course. Attains and maintains NRP Certification Position Requirements: EDUCATION: Associate Degree in Nursing required (Bachelor's preferred). EXPERIENCE: One year experience with maternal child nursing preferred. CERTIFICATE, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: BLS certification required. Current registered nursing (RN) license or Temporary permit from the State of NE required. NRP and Basic Fetal Monitoring to be obtained within one year of hire.
