Responsibilities Registered nurses (RNs) perform basic duties that include treating patients, educating patients about mental and medical conditions, and providing advice and emotional support to patients’ and/or family members, running therapeutic groups, psychiatric crisis intervention, seclusion and restraint of patients. RNs record patients’ medical histories and symptoms, help to perform diagnostic tests and analyze results, operate medical machinery, administer treatment and medications, and help with patient follow-up and rehabilitation. RNs teach patients and their families how to manage their illness or injury, diet and exercise programs, and self-administration of medication and physical therapy. Other related duties. Qualifications EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING 1. Must have current and valid State license as a Registered Nurse.2. Current BLS certificate upon hire and maintain current.3. Working knowledge of Mental Health Laws and practice standards. 4. Working knowledge of interdisciplinary treatment team process, behavioral health programming and daily nursing functions for inpatient and outpatient behavioral health units. 5. Working knowledge of the continuum of care for behavioral health care. Responsibilities The Registered Nurse is responsible for the delivery of safe patient care utilizing the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation. Provides direct patient care within the scope of practice. Several disciplines collaborate to provide prescribed oncology care including chemotherapy and biotherapy. The unit is also designated as the overflow for Blood and Marrow Transplant patients. The nursing team is dedicated to care for patients who need aggressive symptom management. They work closely with a multi-disciplinary palliative care team, implementing a holistic approach to physical, psychosocial, emotional and spiritual well-being. Autonomous nursing care is the ability of a nurse to assess and provide nursing actions as appropriate for patient care populations based on competence, professional expertise, and knowledge. The nurse is expected to practice autonomously consistent with ANA Standards of Practice and Professional Performance. Independent judgment is expected to be exercised within the context of interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approaches to patient care.
