Miami, FL Full-Time 4 Towers Summary The Clinical Staff Nurse functions as a champion of quality patient care and professional caregiver who demonstrates critical thinking skills and scientific judgment in the anticipation and planning for the care of the patient. The CSN is responsible to perform at a competent level of nursing and consistently demonstrates nursing process. Responsibilities Implements and coordinates the delivery of care in collaboration with physician and other provider and healthcare staff. Utilizes the nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation) in applying nursing knowledge. Documents all pertinent information regarding nursing care, care plans and observations. Accounts for narcotics/emergency equipment on each tour of duty. Maintains a working knowledge of facility infection control procedures. Recognizes, questions and reports significant patient findings and/or inconsistencies in medical/nursing orders/treatment regime. Collaborates and seeks corrective action. Selects and individualizes/updates and adheres to clinical procedures/ protocols/standards/ clinical pathways, plans of care/narcotics policies and discharge/teaching plans. Completes and submits patient/unit charges. Recognizes/prioritizes overt/convert unit needs/problems/implements corrective action independently. Assumes charge nurse role when assigned/supervises designated personnel/takes action as needed. In this role, you will perform a variety of tasks, such as checking supplies and equipment, setting up sterile tables, passing instruments to the surgeon and sterilizing instruments after procedures. This position offers a unique way to gain hands-on experience in an operative environment while making a lasting difference in the lives of patients and caregivers every day. Ultimately, surgery could not be possible without your support. This is a regular PRN position, with caregivers working various day/evening/night/weekend shifts between 7:00 a.m. – 7:30 p.m. or 7:00 p.m. – 7:30 a.m. with on-call requirements. This position is primarily at Weston, but caregivers will be required to float to the unit of greatest need within Cleveland Clinic Martin Health – North, South and Tradition. A caregiver who excels in this role will: Provide quality, individualized patient care in the perioperative, intraoperative and postoperative phases. Follow guidelines for perioperative practices as established by AORN. Review daily assignment and ascertain surgeon-specific preferences and anesthesia. Identify and prioritize individual patient care needs. Plan care based on contemplated procedure, standards of practice, admission assessment and MD preferences. Assemble, check and open sterile packs, sutures and more. Practice and assist others in maintaining aseptic technique and electrical and environmental safety in department . Comply with required standards for patient positioning, skin preparation, counting and side-site verification. Remain with the sterile setup to assure maintenance of the sterile field. Assist with draping the sterile field. Report and/or correct any break in sterile technique. Prepare and edit surgeon's preference lists to assure quality care of the surgical patient. Communicate pertinent information during procedure and during personnel changes. Assure that equipment and supplies are utilized at appropriate levels and returned to their proper location after use. Collect specimens as directed by the surgeon and identify the origin of each specimen to the RN Circulator. Assist surgeons and assistants with retraction and suction as directed. Assure that all biohazard material is handled and disposed of properly using universal precautions. Keep accurate counts of all sutures, sharps, soft goods and instruments. Assure that all instrumentation is returned to decontamination with proper documentation count sheets. Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: Completion of a Surgical Technology program accredited through the CAAHEP or ABHES OR completion of a military surgical technology program OR certification as a Surgical Technologist (acceptable certifications for this route are TS-C (through the National Center for Competency Training) or CST (through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) Certification Two years of experience in a multi-disciplined OR in an acute care hospital setting Previous experience as a Surgical Technician in Main OR Ability to support multiple modalities Physical Requirements: Workload is heavy and requires constant lifting, moving of patients, equipment, instrument trays, and supplies.
