Learn About a Day in the Life of a CNA: Responsibilities Work in partnership with the registered nurse to support the delivery of care in a safe patient environment that promotes caring and healing. Demonstrate basic knowledge and skills necessary to communicate appropriately and carry out delegated tasks for patients under the supervision of a registered nurse. Document data as directed, and report observations and patient concerns to the registered nurse. Ensure all safety precautions are observed, including making sure the call light is within reach, bed alarms are used as appropriate, side rails are up, bed is in the lowest position, seat belts are in place, etc. Obtain and record patients' vital signs. Monitor patients and report patients’ condition at regular intervals and before completion of shift, and promptly report any signs or symptoms of concern to the appropriate party. Ensure accurate documentation of observations and interventions in the medical record. Respond promptly to all call lights. Assist patients with mobility and basic tasks, such as bathing, dressing, eating, and other ADLs. Provide basic patient transport and housekeeping duties as needed. Participate in Purposeful Hourly Rounding and Bedside Shift Report as directed. Perform direct and indirect patient care duties as assigned and may provide clerical support to the assigned unit. Maintain unit records and orders/stocks routine supplies for the unit. Qualifications Job Requirements: High School or GED. Current CNA Certification in the State of Idaho. Use the hospital defined method to ensure the patient is in the appropriate status and level of care throughout the continuum of care. Follow the hospital utilization management process in respect to payer requirements for timely notification and communication of pertinent clinical data to support the admission, as well as continued stay and post-discharge needs of a patient. Identify and track avoidable days/delays and use the information as an opportunity for improvement. Work proactively to prevent medical necessity denials, assist in the appeal process if a denial is received and escalate the process as needed. Keep current and abreast of regulatory requirements effecting role and responsibilities. Working collaboratively with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and the interdisciplinary healthcare team, the PACU RN monitors patients during the critical recovery phase, rapidly identifies changes in patient condition, manages pain, and ensures patients are safely prepared for discharge or transfer to the next level of care. This role requires strong clinical judgment, exceptional assessment skills, and the ability to remain calm and focused in a dynamic environment. What You'll Do Deliver Expert Post-Anesthesia Care Perform comprehensive assessments of post-operative patients recovering from anesthesia Monitor airway, respiratory, cardiovascular, and neurological status Recognize and respond promptly to changes in patient condition Administer medications, IV fluids, and treatments safely and effectively Assess and manage post-operative pain using evidence-based practices Patient & Family Education Educate patients and families regarding recovery expectations, pain management, discharge instructions, and follow-up care Provide reassurance and compassionate support during the recovery process Promote a safe, comfortable, and positive surgical experience Collaborate with the Surgical Team Partner closely with surgeons, anesthesia providers, operating room staff, and inpatient nursing units Provide accurate patient handoff communication during transfers of care Support quality improvement initiatives and patient safety standards Serve as a resource and mentor for fellow nursing staff when appropriate What We're Looking For We're seeking someone who is: ✔ Compassionate and patient-focused ✔ Calm and confident under pressure ✔ An exceptional critical thinker ✔ Detail-oriented and clinically skilled ✔ A collaborative team player ✔ Passionate about providing outstanding surgical patient care Qualifications Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing required Current Idaho Registered Nurse (RN) License required Current BLS certification required ACLS and PALS certifications strongly preferred Current hospital nursing experience within the past five years or a recent nursing graduate within the past two years Strong communication and interpersonal skills Experience with electronic medical record systems preferred Preferred Skills Strong understanding of post-anesthesia recovery and airway management Knowledge of anesthetic medications and their effects Experience caring for post-operative patients Excellent assessment, prioritization, and critical thinking skills Ability to recognize and respond quickly to changing patient conditions Why Southeast Idaho?
