RN - Registered Nurse (PER DIEM) Masonicare at Bishop Wicke Shelton, CT PER DIEM Summary of Position: Under the direction of the Clinical Nurse Manager, is responsible for providing professional nursing care for assigned patients. Manages charge responsibility of nursing unit and assumes responsibility for the delivery of care to all residents on the unit. Practices Evidence-Based nursing. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Assumes the professional responsibility and accountability for a group of residents/patients including: a. Medication/Treatment Administration b. Teaching c. Supervision of all nursing staff to assure implementation of the interdisciplinary care plan. 2. Performs ongoing and systematic assessments utilizing the nursing process to establish a comprehensive goal directed interdisciplinary plan. 3. Communicates and collaborates effectively with residents/patients, families, colleagues and other members of the interdisciplinary team to assure that treatment is appropriate to meet the age, needs and abilities of resident/patient and unit needs. Documents accurate, pertinent and comprehensive information in a timely and concise manner as required by regulation & facility policy & procedure. 5. Supervises the care provided by CNAs & LPNs assuring adherence to the plan of care, resident profile, policies and procedures. 6. Participates in educational programs, inservices, meetings and workshops and utilizes current literature to enhance professional skills and knowledge. Attends all annual mandatory programs. 7. Participates in quality improvement activities as directed Follows standards of the Diligent Minimal Lift Program 9. Performs other duties as required. Minimum Qualifications: Education: Associates Degree/Diploma Program, Graduate of accredited school of nursing Experience: 1-2 years nursing experience in clinical setting preferred Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Current RN license in the State of Connecticut Key Competencies: Ability to work as part of a team and to manage multiple priorities; to speak, read and write English in order to communicate with patients, residents and clinical staff; to effectively interact with residents and staff; organized; ability to utilize a personal computer/CRT to input and retrieve patient information; and familiarity with the Care Plan Development. Evaluate the plan of care and the patient's responses: reassess and revise the plan based upon changing needs and priorities. Demonstrate the skill and judgment necessary to implement Physician's orders, nursing interventions and procedures as necessary for the care of the patient. Maintain up to date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided to insure the integration of information for use by the health care team and to insure the totality of quality care. Promote effective working relationships and work cooperatively as part of the department team to facilitate the department's ability to meet its goal and objectives. Contributes to Quality Improvement activities and participates in the departmental Quality Improvement Program. Responsible for own professional development to insure appropriate knowledge of advances in practice to provide state of the art treatment for patient population serviced. Perform other related duties as required. Requirements Licensed Registered Nurse in the State of Connecticut Medical/Surgical experience preferred. Intravenous therapy experience preferred (included starting IV's) Good communication skills. Ability to work as a member of an interdisciplinary team Ability to work in a time oriented environment including exposure to all patient elements, i.e. blood borne pathogens, physical requirements; lifting and pulling of patients, pushing stretchers, standing and walking for extended periods of time wearing a lead apron. Ability to demonstrate and perform strengthening and toning exercises. Ability to interact with patients with tact and confidentiality. Graduate of an accredited Nursing ( RN ) Program Must have basic computer skills and ability to access internet and other programs applicable to Waterbury Hospital procedures. Evaluate the plan of care and the patient's responses: reassess and revise the plan based upon changing needs and priorities. Set up and use all equipment needed for treatments. Act as resource for aides and students for all procedures in the ED and on call. Demonstrate the skill and judgment necessary to implement Physician's orders, nursing interventions and procedures as necessary for the care of the patient. Maintain up to date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided to insure the integration of information for use by the health care team and to insure the totality of quality care. Promote effective working relationships and work cooperatively as part of the department team to facilitate the department's ability to meet its goal and objectives.
