Position Summary The Vascular Access Registered Nurse provides expert peripheral intravenous (PIV), PICC line placements and other vascular access related tasks. This includes developing (as needed) and maintaining clinical expertise in the placement of PICC lines, teaching and mentoring RN's on the floors about basic IV care such as the use of safety catheters, being a clinical expert resource for the organization in vascular access issues and working closely with the staff to improve organizational access, flow and customer experience and assisting in the development of this new program. * Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. * Current MN nursing license. * BLS certification. * Current 2-3 years of pediatric nursing experience. * Current 2 years expertise in vascular access with children. * Competent in assessment and treatment of VAD sites for all complications. * Proficiency in ultrasound guided PIV placement, 1 year experience required. * Peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC) placement experience in children required * VA-BC certification preferred. * An informational meeting with the Patient Care Manager is required prior to awarding the position. Department Overview The Midwest Children's Resource Center provides medical diagnosis, psychological assessment, and treatment for children and their families affected by physical abuse, sexual abuse, or neglect. In addition, they are available for telephone consultation 24/7 for child protection, law enforcement agencies, physicians, therapists, attorneys, and concerned parent. They offer training, internships, and fellowhips for physicians, advanced practice nurses, and professionals interested in expanding their knowledge and skill in medical evaluation, interviewing children, psychological assessment, and treating abused children. Position Summary This position provides specialized medical consultation, evaluation, and care for children and adolescents with concerns related to child maltreatment. Key responsibilities include: * Providing phone consultation and triage for caregivers, medical providers, and community professionals. * Conducting medical evaluations, including video-recorded histories, for suspected victims of child maltreatment. * Collecting physical evidence in acute cases of sexual assault or abuse involving children and adolescents. * Providing medical evaluations and ongoing care for adolescents in youth shelter settings. * Coordinating care with a multidisciplinary team. * Occasionally providing testimony in legal proceedings. Schedule and Work Location This is a 0.9 FTE position with day hours. The role is primarily based in the MCRC outpatient clinic in St. Paul. On-Call Coverage and Travel The position includes on-call coverage during nights, weekends, and holidays. On-call responsibilities may involve evaluating acute presentations of physical and sexual abuse at both Children’s campuses.The role also requires travel to youth shelters one to three times per week to provide health education and reproductive health care. Education: * Master's degree from an accredited college. * Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program. License/Certification/Registration: * Current Minnesota RN/APRN Licensure. * Current Nurse Practitioner certification in specialty area. At the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) at Children’s Minnesota St. Paul Campus, our inter-disciplinary team of over 500 professionals is dedicated to the care of babies born prematurely, those with birth defects, genetic disorders, medical disorders and any baby needing surgery. We care for babies requiring complex care, including hemodynamic monitoring, critical medication management, and maintenance of systemic perfusion and management of organ failure. We are a part of the Mother Baby Center in St. Paul at United Hospital which includes high-risk delivery services. The Children’s St. Paul NICU is a 62-bed unit providing level 2 and level 3 neonatal care, which allows for continuity of care from admission to discharge.
