The nurse will establish goals and priorities of nursing care. The nurse will develop a written plan of nursing care which includes patient education and discharge planning. The staff nurse will be responsible for documentation of care given with patient progress. The RN will work collaboratively with the medical staff in matters of patient care. DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION: With 31 beds, the critical care unit serves neurology and neurosurgery patients receiving treatment for strokes, brain tumors, head traumas, seizures, neuro-oncology, advanced neurological monitoring and other neuromuscular disorders. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Registered Nurse by state of employment or holds a multistate RN license through the interstate Nurse Licensure Compact. required OR Registered Nurse from another state with a Temporary PA Practice Permit required. 6 months RN experience required. Please note - Penn State Hershey requires all registered nurses hired after July 1st, 2015 to enroll in a baccalaureate in nursing degree program within one year of their hire date and complete the degree within 4 years of their hire date. (This does not apply if your hire date was prior to June 30th, 2015). PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience in a neuroscience Intensive Care Unit is preferred, but general intensive care unit / critical care experience is acceptable, or two years of medical/surgical/telemetry experience in an acute care setting. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*: Able to sit occasionally; stand constantly; walk frequently. Able to lift/carry 0-10 lbs frequently; 11-50 lbs occasionally. Able to push/pull 0-20 lbs frequently; 21-75 lbs occasionally. Able to climb occasionally; reach constantly. Able to use hand for simple/firm grasping.
