Order appropriate laboratory tests and procedures. Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures necessary and appropriate for the care of the patient (from ELBW to LOA babies). Review and provide general care items involved in neonatal care, such as temperature stabilization, hyperalimentation therapy, feeding management, etc. Obtain patient history and performs assessment via observation, interview, and examination of the NICU patient. Order, perform and interpret diagnostic studies. Provide direct treatment and management of health conditions. Document on delivery of health care and nursing processes in accordance with specific specialty area standards and network nursing policy. Perform procedures, to include intubation, umbilical lines, lumbar puncture, thoracentesis/chest tube placement, PICC line placement, Participate in and attend to high-risk deliveries including stabilization and management of complex critical needs of the newborn.
