Twelve out of the sixteen labor rooms were renovated in 2021. This unit also has six triage rooms, three ORs and five antepartum rooms. In addition to the recent unit updates, this team utilizes the most current evidence based supplies & products. Nursing leadership has brought in many new products in the last few years. In this unit, you will see women with many different types of pregnancies, singletons, twins & even triplets! VHC Health is Kaiser Permanente’s premier center for their high-risk patient population, including antepartum patients, high-risk vaginal, external cephalic versions (where breech babies are rotated to vertex in hopes of having a vaginal delivery), TOLACs (Trial of Labor after Cesarean birth) and cesarean deliveries. Position Title PRN APP Nurse Practitioner / Physician Assistant-Cardiac & Thoracic Surgery Job Description Summary PRN Cardiac, Vascular, and Thoracic (CVT) Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant) Position Summary: The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) will provide specialized care for cardiovascular and thoracic surgery patients in an inpatient-only setting, primarily supporting patients in the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) and CV Stepdown Unit. This role focuses on managing complex post-operative patients and collaborating closely with CVT surgeons and the multidisciplinary team to ensure optimal outcomes. Key Responsibilities: · Deliver comprehensive care to CVT surgery patients in CVICU and CV Stepdown units. · Perform patient assessments, develop and implement treatment plans, and manage post-operative recovery. · Order and interpret diagnostic tests, prescribe medications, and perform bedside procedures within scope of practice. · Participate in patient education and discharge planning. · Ensure adherence to clinical protocols, safety standards, and regulatory requirements. · Document all care accurately in the electronic health record (EHR). Education & Qualifications: -Master’s degree in Nursing (to be obtained within 24 months if not already completed) or completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program. In the absence of the Nurse Manager, the ANM serves in a leadership capacity to ensure continuity of care and operational oversight. What You’ll Do Implement daily Emergency Department operations, aligning staffing and resources to patient acuity, trauma volume, and throughput demands. Monitor triage effectiveness, EMS intake coordination, and trauma activation processes. Supervise and coach nursing staff; assist with performance evaluations and improvement plans. Support recruitment, interviewing, and onboarding of emergency nursing staff. Ensure compliance with EMTALA, trauma standards, and regulatory requirements. Promote evidence-based emergency and trauma nursing practice. Support quality initiatives related to sepsis, stroke, STEMI, and trauma outcomes. Facilitate communication between nursing staff, trauma surgeons, emergency physicians, EMS, pharmacy, and hospital leadership. Address operational or clinical issues that may impact emergent care delivery in real time. Report and escalate significant events, near misses, and patient safety concerns appropriately. Required Qualifications Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing preferred; must obtain BSN within three (3) years of assuming ANM position if not already obtained. Current, active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the District of Columbia. Minimum two (2) years clinical experience in Emergency Nursing preferred. Experience in trauma or high-acuity emergency settings strongly preferred. Minimum one (1) year supervisory or leadership experience required. Current BLS certification required.
