We will personalize an orientation just for you to set you up for success in the pediatric specialty you are hired for. This CICU is a 24-bed unit quaternary care referral center for four states: Washington, Alaska, Montana, and Idaho (WAMI region). Patients cared for are newborns up to young adults with acquired and congenital heart disease. The CICU supports robust mechanical circulatory assist and cardiac transplant programs. Specialized care provided in the CICU includes cerebral oximetry monitoring, inhaled nitric oxide, temporary pacemakers, heart failure management, open chest procedures, and continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT). Extracorporeal life support represents a highly specialized form of cardiopulmonary support that includes the use of ECMO and ventricular assist devices (VAD). As an integral member of the Health Care Team, the RN functions within the Scope of Practice as defined by the State, the ANA Scope and Standards for Pediatric Nursing Practice, and adheres to Seattle Children's policies/procedures and guidelines of care. Responsible for providing safe, family centered patient care. Using the Nursing Care Process, the RN is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating patient care in a collaborative method with the patient and patient's family, significant others, and members of the health care team. May be required to provide supervision and delegation of tasks to Nurse Technicians, Licensed Practical Nurses, Certified Medical Assistants, Certified Nursing Assistants, and others as defined by the State Administrative Code. Assists in meeting Seattle Children's strategic goals by incorporating the initiatives to support the strategic plans into the daily work, i.e., Continuous Performance Improvement (CPI), Value Based Behaviors, Error Prevention, Patient Safety, Workforce Community and Connection etc. Required Education and Experience Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS/APS/NPS) - Acute Care Cardiology, 0.6 FTE We are looking for a Clinical Nurse Specialist to join our Acute Care cardiology team (Cardiac Specialty Care Unit and R6 Cardiac) . This role requires a Master's degree in Nursing and a minimum of three years of RN experience. You will provide clinical expertise, leadership, and education to enhance nursing practice standards. Communicates with community health related persons to coordinate the care plan. 4. As a mandatory reporter, reports failure to comply with the requirements of VA state, local, and federal law and ethics as required within 14 calendar days, using Dept. of Health forms. 5. Reports suspected abandonment, abuse, financial exploitation, or neglect of a person to the department of social and health services and the proper law enforcement agency. Reports must be submitted immediately when the reporting person has reasonable cause to believe that abandonment, abuse, financial exploitation, or neglect of a vulnerable adult has occurred. 6. Teaches the patient and family/caregiver self-care techniques as appropriate. Provides medication, diet and other instructions as ordered by the physician and recognizes and utilizes opportunities for health counseling with patients and families/caregivers. Works in concert with the interdisciplinary group. 7. Provides and maintains a safe environment for the patient. 8. Assists the patient and family/caregiver and other team members in providing continuity of care. 9. Works in cooperation with the family/caregiver and hospice interdisciplinary group to meet the emotional needs of the patient and family/caregiver. 10. Attends interdisciplinary group meetings. Additional Duties 1. Participates in on-call duties as defined by the on-call policy. 2. Ensures that arrangements for equipment and other necessary items and services are available. 3. Supervises ancillary personnel and delegates responsibilities if required. 4. Graduate of an accredited school of nursing 2. Registered Nurse, with a License in good standing to practice in the state of Washington. 3. Management experience not required. Responsible for supervising hospice aides may be applicable. 5. Registered Nurses are paid on a step-scale basis and are also eligible for shift differentials and other pay premiums such as advanced degree, preceptor and certification.Although Fred Hutch is not sponsoring most H-1B visas at this time, candidates who already hold an H-1B sponsored by another organization and are currently in the U.S. may be eligible for this position.
