Description Kindred Hospital Houston Medical Center and Acute Rehabilitation Unit (ARU) provide specialized care for patients with complex medical needs. Our long-term acute care hospital (LTACH) offers advanced, hospital-level treatment for chronically and critically ill patients requiring extended stays. In addition, our Acute Rehabilitation Unit is dedicated to helping patients recover from the effects of acute injuries, impairments, or illnesses. With a focus on personalized care, both the LTACH and ARU collaborate with your physician to provide 24/7 clinical care, ensuring continuous support on your path to recovery. Job Summary Assists professional nursing personnel in providing patient care in assigned area. Assists patients with activities of daily living, provides for personal care, emotional support and performs more complex clinical skills under the direction of professional nursing personnel. Essential Functions Consults with and keeps supervisor informed of unit activities, needs, and problems related to patient care. Provides general nursing care such as positioning the patient, lifting, turning, applying/utilizing special equipment, assisting in the use of bed pan, urinal or commode, ambulating the patient, pre operative and post operative care, and application of binder or anti embolic stockings, bed bath, oral/hair/back care, changing bed linens, cleaning over bed table, and bedside stand, straightening patient room and other general care necessary during the shift. Takes and records temperature, pulse, respiration, weight, height, blood pressure, and intake and output measurements accurately. Documents in a timely manner. Prepares patient room and bed for admission and transfers and ensures all necessary equipment is in room. Maintains an attractive and comfortable environment for patients with special consideration to cleanliness of room, ventilation, and lighting. Assists in patient admission, transfer, and discharge procedures. Assist with handling and care of patient belongings and other personal property. Answers patient call lights, telephone, and paging system and responds as appropriate. Under the direction of the Registered Nurse, performs routine treatment procedures such as enemas, application of appliances for heat and cold. Able to release, remove, and reapply restraints to patient under the direction of an RN. Ensures patient is in proper position and alignment. Assist Registered Nurse and/or LVN/LPN with complicated patient treatment procedures. Serves and removes patient meal tray in timely manner. Assists with feeding and/or preparing items such as opening milk container, cutting food for patient. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Expectations Must read, write and speak fluent English. Must have good and regular attendance. Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills Basic computer knowledge. Able to organize tasks, develop action plans, set priorities and function under stressful situations. Ability to maintain a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments. Approximate percent of time required to travel: Performs other related duties as assigned. Job Description We are searching for an Inpatient OR Staff Nurse for the Pavilion for Women -- someone who works well in a fast-paced setting. In this position, you will provide nursing care to patients by assessing, planning, educating, implementing, and evaluating age-appropriate care that incorporates family-centered principles and cost-effective care. Pavilion for Women Operating Room: Pavilion for Women Operating Room includes a surgical suite and procedure space that supports obstetrics, gynecology, fetal surgery, general surgery, urgent interventional radiology, and other specialized services for pregnant patients and women. Perioperative Services also supports operating rooms in Labor and Delivery along with procedure, pre operative, and recovery areas in the Reproductive Endocrinology Clinic. The unit provides care for patients ranging from adolescents to adult women and operates as part of the broader Perioperative Services Department. Job Duties & Responsibilities: Assists in the collection of patient/family data that may include biophysical, psychosocial, developmental, cultural, and environmental information per site protocol Collects and documents vital signs, height/weight and reason for visit Prepares patient for examination per site protocol Assists provider, as directed, during treatments, examinations and testing as directed by provider and within scope of site Administers medication and immunizations as directed by physician per site protocol Documents administration of medication and immunizations in the medical record per site protocol Provides patient/family education as instructed by the physician or site protocol Documents such education in the medical record Coordinates referrals Triages presenting patient complaint per site protocol Verifies provider order and patient per site protocol Collects and processes specimen according to manufacturer’s instructions and using proper technique Demonstrates service philosophies to patients and families As part of our commitment to maintaining a safe and healthy workplace, all successful candidates will be required to undergo respiratory fit testing in compliance with occupational health and safety standards. About the Role The Lead Surgical Technologists is an allied health professional, who are an integral part of the team of medical practitioners providing surgical care to patients. The Lead Surgical Tech work under the supervision of a surgeon to facilitate the safe and effective conduct of invasive surgical procedures, ensuring that the operating room environment is safe, that equipment functions properly, and that the operative procedure is conducted under conditions that maximize patient safety. This Lead Surgical Tech shall possess expertise in the theory and application of sterile and aseptic technique and combine the knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and implementation tools and technologies to facilitate a physician's performance of invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures. POSITION’S ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Works closely with surgeons, OR Team Leads and Clinical Managers on day-to-day operations. Coordinates/collaborates with department educator to develop staff development plans for unit. Coordinate with service specific team lead, sales representatives and OR materials management for specialty equipment, implants, instruments, and supplies. Coordinates with materials to contact vendors regarding supplies, instrumentation, and needs of cases. Coordinates with Sterile Processing Department to ensure accuracy of instruments, appropriate instrumentation allocation, and priority processing of instruments needed for procedures. Works with charge RN for schedule coordination, staffing assignments, daily duties, and rotations. Creates/updates surgeon preference cards. Ensuring that all preference cards are correct and up to date. Verify accuracy of case postings. Verify cases have been pulled and accuracy of case pulls. Verify equipment needs for cases. Verify room setup. Mentor and teach new surgical technologists to the Operating Room and RNs rotating through a specialty (within the scrub role. Acts as a resource for staff daily. All other duties as assigned. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Two (2) years of experience as a surgical technologist and/or has demonstrated competency in two (2) or more specialty areas.
