A CNA in this position is given the opportunity to train on an array of Med Surg floors, Telemetry units and high acuity settings within Maine’s only Magnet designated hospital and level 1 Trauma Center. The assortment of floors and units a CNA could potentially be assigned to may give way to opportunity to practice in highly sought after specialties once trained on multiple units, including pediatrics and Mother/Baby care, that may not otherwise be available at the time of hire. Candidates applying to the Float Pool must possess the ability to think quickly on their feet, remarkable adaptability and critical thinking expertise. Summary Under the supervision of a Registered Professional Nurses and according to defined policies and procedures, performs various service duties and technical tasks such as taking vital signs and assisting patients with basic hygiene and activities of daily living. Specific duties may vary by area of assignment. Consideration of the special needs and behaviors of specific patient populations is required. The Certified Nursing Assistant II role assists in the administration of nursing care to designated patients under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse. The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at The Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital is one of the most sophisticated facilities for pediatric critical care in the northeast featuring the latest in design and technology, including one positive pressure room and two negative pressure rooms. Our PICU offers high-level intensive care for more than 450 critically ill children each year. Our providers have the expertise to care for children with: Acute critical illness, serious injuries from accidents, severe neurological illness or injury, organ failure, those who have undergone complex surgery. This expert care includes advanced therapies in invasive and non-invasive respiratory support, sophisticated monitoring techniques, and administering continuous infusions that require close medical supervision. Some of our patients require 1:1 nursing care, while other patients are part of a 1:2 nurse:patient ratio.Our rounds and approach to care are always multidisciplinary and we focus on evidence based practices to provide the most up to date, highest quality care. All shifts are 12 hrs and utilize a self- scheduling model.
