RN Clinical Nurse II (Per Diem) - Ambulatory Surgery Center PreOp/PACU

The UNC Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) is a free-standing surgical facility with 8 operating rooms and 3 cystoscopy procedure rooms. Our department includes 9 PreOp bays, 10 PACU bays, 6 Short Stay Unit (SSU) rooms for patients requiring stays of up to 23 hours, and 9 dedicated cystoscopy pre/post-procedure bays. The ASC supports a diverse range of surgical specialties, including orthopedics (sports), ENT, plastic surgery, general surgery, surgical oncology, and urology. We care for both pediatric and adult patients, with our pediatric population beginning at 6 months of age. Our team currently cares for approximately 32 patients per day, with volumes growing to approximately 40–48 patients daily following the addition of cystoscopy services. PACU nurses can typically expect to care for approximately 4–6 patients per shift, depending on patient acuity, surgical volume, and workflow. Our multidisciplinary team works collaboratively across PreOp, PACU, Short Stay, and cystoscopy areas to provide safe, efficient, and patient-centered perioperative care in a fast-paced ambulatory surgery environment. Summary: Provides competent clinical nursing care consistent with professional standards. Reporting and accountable to the Nurse Manager/Director, the Clinical Nurse is responsible for coordinating and delivering patient care utilizing the nursing process in a hospital setting. Responsibilities: 1. Education - Participates in identifying and meeting learning needs of self. Attends education programs based on identified learning needs. With assistance, uses patient education materials relevant to patient population. Assesses readiness to learn of the patient/family/caregivers. Assesses developmental level of patient and factors affecting ability to learn. 2. Evaluation of Care - Identifies expected patient outcomes. Seeks guidance as needed in revision of plan of care. General Program Overview: The twelve-month UNC Health Rex Nurse Residency program supports the transition from academia to practice for new graduate nurses.
