The new Donor Care Center will be one of eight organ procurement programs in the country and first in the state of Arizona. Banner continues to courageously innovate as we create a unique organ recovery process that will help to improve donation and transplantation outcomes. We are interested in finding team members who are passionate about organ donation and the processes associated with giving the gift of life to other deserving families in our community. We will start with 4 beds and with plans to expand the unit. This unique patient population of brain-dead only patients will require the RN staff more autonomy while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team focused on optimizing organ viability for procurement. POSITION SUMMARY This position assesses, plans, implements, evaluates and documents nursing care of patients in accordance with organizational policies and in accordance with standards of professional nursing practice utilizing the framework for professional nursing practice and development. This position is accountable for the quality of nursing services delivered by self or others who are under their direction. This position utilizes specialized knowledge, judgment, and nursing skills necessary to assess data and plan, provide and evaluate care appropriate to the physical and developmental age of assigned patients. CORE FUNCTIONS 1. Formulates and initiates a plan of care utilizing assessment data and health team input. Plans care in collaboration with members of the multidisciplinary team. Reviews and revises the plan of care to reflect changing needs based on evaluation of the patient’s status. 2. Implements the plan of care through direct patient care, coordination, delegation and supervision of the activities of the health care team. Provides care based on physician orders and the nursing plan of care, in compliance with policies and procedures, standards of care, and regulatory agency requirements. Delegates appropriately and provides nursing supervision in the provision of care to patients by other licensed nurses and other personnel. Promotes continuity of care by accurately and completely communicating to other caregivers the status of patients for whom care is provided. 3. Documents assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation in the patient record. Documentation is legible, timely and in accordance with policy. Documentation reflects objective/subjective data, nursing interventions and patient's response to treatment. Notes physician orders accurately and in a timely manner. 5. Provides care based on the best evidence available and may participate in research activities within clinical practice. Participates in unit or facility shared leadership. Interacts and participates in the education, role development, and orientation of facility personnel, patients, students, families and visitors. Promotes/supports growth of others through precepting and mentoring when appropriate. 6. Contributes to society through activities that lead to excellent patient outcomes through timely, effective, efficient, equitable, and safe care. In some roles, this position may supervise staff and work flow of the department. 8. Requires clinical knowledge typically achieved with three years’ experience in the intensive care setting. Must maintain clinical performance competencies appropriate to the area in which they work as demonstrated through annual validations. Banner Registry and Travel acute care positions require a minimum of one year experience in an acute care hospital setting. Experience must include working in an acute care setting within the past 12 months as a Registered Nurse in the specialty area. The successful candidate: Collaborates with Physicians to evaluate patient readiness for change in level of care. Responsible for the assessment, treatment care and education of patients. Cares for ICU, Medical Surgical, and telemetry patients as necessary. Ability to conduct risk assessment, prevention and treatment of pressure injury Ability to interpret and operate cardiac and other invasive and noninvasive monitors, recognize normal/abnormal rhythms/trends, and institute appropriate interventions. Care for patients with complex needs including hemodynamically compromised and mechanically ventilated patients. Initiate and maintain complex IV therapy, including thrombolytic administration, vasoactive medications, central IV catheters, dialysis catheters & arterial lines. Safe use of less invasive, life supporting modalities i.e. BiPAP, ETCO2, arterial pressure- based CO/CI & SVO2 monitor, core temperature monitors. Ability to care for patients with IV lines, arterial lines, central lines, ports, chest tubes, pleural catheters, tracheostomy tubes and endotracheal tubes. Maintenance and care of patients with an ostomy/ileostomy and urostomy. Care for, assess and monitor patients with Patient Controlled Analgesia (PCA) and epidural catheters. Demonstrates basic knowledge of chemotherapeutic/immunotherapeutic agents. Must be able to work 2 12's, 7:00p-7:30a Qualifications Your qualifications should include: 1 year experience in ICU/Inpatient Associate Degree in Nursing or equivalent Arizona Registered Nurse License or a Registered Nurse License form a Compact State Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification- an approved American Heart Association (AHA) training site, American Safety & Health Institute, or Red Cross BLS certification is required upon hire. If their current certification does not meet the guidelines, employees will have (30) days from the date of hire to acquire attend an onsite initial BLS course and will be required to renew every two years. Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Certification-employees will have thirty (30) days from the date of hire to acquire American Heart Association (AHA) ACLS certification and will need to be renewed every two years. Will not be allowed to provide ACLS for patients independently until AHA ACLS cards are obtained.
