Overview About the Role The primary purpose of the Advanced Practice Nurse position is to improve patient care and systems practice on the Trauma service. The Trauma APN provides clinical patient care to Trauma patients in collaboration with Trauma Physicians, the Trauma Team and with all other health care disciplines. Utilizes advanced practice nursing expertise to provide patient care services, staff orientation, consultation, and evaluation as well as education for patients, families, and health care team members. Works collaboratively with physicians and nursing leadership to identify' patient care and staff development needs. Maintains a clinical tract faculty appointment and serves as a preceptor for students. Participates in staff development programs, patient/family education programs, performance improvement, research and education programs related to trauma. Measurement criteria for all performance standards are observed by the Director, Division of Trauma, and the Trauma Program Manager, unless otherwise indicated. Responsibilities What You’ll Do Provides advanced practice nursing services to trauma patients, their families, and significant others in collaboration with trauma physicians. Participates in Daily Trauma Team rounds, responds to Trauma Team Activations and provides care in Trauma clinic and during office hours. Makes independent rounds or rounds with Trauma Physician, as necessary. Provides initial and ongoing patient assessment utilizing physical examination, ordering and interpretation of monitoring and diagnostic tests. Responsibilities The primary purpose of the Nurse Anesthetist (Certified Registered) position is to administer anesthesia and anesthesia-related care in four general categories: (1) pre-anesthetic preparation and evaluation; (2) anesthesia induction, maintenance and emergence; (3) post-anesthesia care; and (4) perianesthetic and clinical support functions. How you make a difference The Nurse Practitioner (NP) under the supervision of the Site Medical Director and other site Physicians, offers a comprehensive range of medical services to incarcerated patients in accordance with established policy and state guidelines. They ensure necessary documentation of services is provided to the Site Medical Director or designee to monitor the provision of clinical services. Additionally, they communicate scheduling changes to the Medical Director and H.S.A. and make arrangements for coverage of medical services if unavailable for an extended period of time. Key Responsibilities Provides medical care to inmates, including conducting exams, chronic care clinics, and infirmary rounds. Maintains accurate and legible progress note documentation in SOAP format and adheres to formulary guidelines. Responds to emergencies and makes logical decisions regarding non-formulary drugs or off-site referrals. Supports existing policies and procedures for admission, transfer, and specialty consultant referrals. Maintains confidentiality and provides input into facility committees as requested. Qualifications & Requirements Education A graduate of an accredited school of nursing An advanced degree in an approved and accredited Nurse Practitioner program. Experience Prior medical/surgical and/or emergency/trauma experience and corrections experience is preferred. Must have the patience and tact to deal with the inmate patient population and ability to work effectively in the corrections environment. Scheduling flexibility is also required to be able to rotate hours and shifts, if needed, and to be called during emergency situations to provide coverage. Licenses/Certifications Must have and maintain current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner within the state of employment. Must have and maintain current CPR certification. Overview The Observation Unit is specialized and designed for efficient, ongoing medical treatment, assessment, and reassessment of patients before the appropriate decision can be made to either discharge or admit. You will care for a wide variety of patients with chest pain, A-fib, cellulitis, syncope, asthma, and congestive heart failure, trauma, musculoskeletal pain, stroke and TIA, among other diagnosis. This is a fast paced service. Patients have a short length of stay and the unit admits and discharges patients 24/7. Responsibilities The primary purpose of the Staff Nurse on the Observation Unit (H-Blue) is to be accountable for the care activities, safety and goal achievements of assigned patients through assessing, planning and intervening in actual or potential health problems and evaluating patient’s response to the care. These responsibilities also include patient education and discharge planning. The Registered Professional Nurse is a member of a designated care team and collaborates, coordinates and guides team members in planning patient care in a safe environment and achieving the highest quality and safety in the delivery of patient care.
