Overview The Director of Nursing Services has direct responsibility for the supplemental staffing team department. Hasoverall accountability for the quality of patient care, the monitoring of performance of the nursing staff, and thedevelopment and management of the budget. Oversees and directs departmental management in theorientation, education, and development of the staff in order to establish the knowledge and skills necessary toprovide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Contributes to nursing and ARH in support ofphilosophy and objectives and education efforts. Collaborates with physicians, staff, support departments andservice lines to assure excellence in patient care. The Director of Nursing Services works directly with theDirector of Central Staffing and the System CNO to ensure all financial and quality metrics are achieved. Special Instructions This is a remote position. Responsibilities Serves as a liaison between nursing staff, doctors, and healthcare administration. Assists with formulating annual operating and capital budgets for department. Monitors and evaluates departmental budgets and ensures that the department operates in compliance withallocated funding. Coordinates and directs internal/external audits. Reviews/revises policies and procedures on an annual basis in collaboration with ARH leadership to ensureevidence-based care standards are being met. Plans and monitors staffing activities, including hiring, orienting, evaluating performance, disciplinary actions,and continuing education initiatives. Provides resources to assure that new employees receive an adequate, quality orientation and all personnel areprovided with continuing education opportunities commensurate with their position requirements. Assures that licensure and required competency certificates are current for all personnel as appropriate. Acts as a role model for patient satisfaction and quality of care. Supports the efforts of the facility to improve engagement by operationalizing current nursing strategies,including nurse leader rounding, employee rounding, hourly rounds, beside shift report and other initiatives. Assists with staff scheduling. Manages all practical aspects of staff labor in accordance with patient care needsand established productivity guidelines. Participates in interdisciplinary committees and workshops as needed to facilitate work of the organization. Effective time management by completion of activities and reports in established time frames. Participation in resource and product reviews and product evaluations as needed.Has formal mechanism in place to ensure ongoing communication with staff and management team.Creates and fosters an environment that encourages professional growth. Integrates evidence-based practicesinto operations and clinical protocols. Works with medical staff to coordinate management of patient care. Investigates and documents unusual or complex situations, never events, concerns, or complaints withcorrective action plan noted. Assures that assigned department(s) are operated in a manner consistent with the approved clinical carestandards, quality assurance program(s), DNV and all regulatory agencies. Leads and maintains performance improvement activities for the department(s). Develops and maintains appropriate working relationships with all internal and external customers. Provides guidance to department clinical staff leaders in operational budgets and variances to goals and takescorrective action as necessary. Demonstrates commitment to professional growth and competence by participating in conferences, courses, andworkshops to upgrade management skills. Actively participates in teaching and education of others. Overview The Supplemental Staffing Team (SST) Registered Nurse (RN) assesses, analyzes, plans, implements and evaluates patient care following established patient care standards for Appalachian Regional Healthcare including those established by the Nurse Practice Act. The primary function of this role, based upon hired tier and float option, is to be available and flexible to float to various departments and/or hospital sites throughout ARH healthcare locations within Kentucky and/or West Virginia. The SST RN is to provide patient care, which could include but not limited to same day staffing assignments, more than one assignment location within a single shift, travel assignments, seasonal staffing patterns or natural disaster/emergency response. Participates as a member of the Supplemental Staffing Team in cooperation with and under the direction of Director and/or Clinical Nurse Manager or designee. • Supplemental Staffing Team RNs are hired with the understanding they must float based on one of the following staffing models: • Local: Float expectation within a single site based on competency. • Regional: Float expectation within multiple sites within a single region based on competency. • Enterprise: Float expectation within multiple sites across one or more regions that are greater than 75 miles from the RN's home address and accepts assignments that range from 2 to 13 weeks based on competency. Special Instructions Enterprise: Contracts range from 2 to 26 weeks at facilities within an assigned region, with a maximum of 26 weeks allowed at any single location before reassignment within the assigned region.. Responsibilities • In collaboration with providers, clinical care team members, patients and families (as defined by the patient), evaluates, plans, directs and administers patient care. • Implements a plan of care based upon established standards of care/practice, policies, and procedures, incorporating cultural, religious, psychosocial, physical, and age-related issues. • Completes all required documentation accurately and within the required timeframe. • Communicates clinical information with members of the multidisciplinary team. • Possesses knowledge of medications and administers them safely and accurately. • Appropriately delegates and supervises routine technical functions to non-licensed and licensed personnel. • Embraces concepts and behaviors that enhance customer satisfaction, employee morale, and improvement in the profession of nursing. • In collaboration with the patient and family, evaluates patient outcomes and revises the patient's plan of care. • Negotiates with the patient, family, and healthcare team members to achieve acceptable resolution of conflicts related to patient care or organizational issues. • Demonstrates an appreciation of the hospital mission by acting as a resource for employees, students, and residents. • Supports patient and family centered care and promotes that environment within the care provided. • Includes patients and families in the plan of care and provides education and support as needed. • Incorporates the professional practice model into care delivery. • Acts as a patient safety advocate by participating in ongoing quality improvement initiatives within the department. • Performs other duties assigned by authorized personnel or as required to meet the needs of the facility and internal and external customers. How you make a difference As a Registered Nurse (RN), your primary responsibility is to provide patient care using the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. You will work under the supervision of Charge Nurse(s) to provide patient education and activities in accordance with your competencies and education. This role requires excellent communication and critical thinking skills to ensure optimal patient outcomes. Key Responsibilities Assist in assessing and planning individual treatment programs, consulting with Charge Nurse(s) and other staff as necessary. Implement medical plans by administering medications, obtaining diagnostic tests, and assisting with medical or minor surgical procedures as needed. Count controlled substances and implement clinical and technical aspects of care in accordance with established policies, procedures, and protocols. Document nursing encounters using the SOAP form of charting as required by policy and attend mandatory staff meetings and training.
