Certified Medical Assistant 3 ***Hybrid*** This role is non patient facing The University of Miami/UHealth Department of Neurology has an exciting opportunity for a Full Time Certified Medical Assistant 3 to work at the UHealth Medical Campus. The Medical Assistant (MA) 3 (H) will perform multi-skilled tasks to assist the medical providers. The MA 3 shall assist patients’ healthcare management and clinical procedures in a culturally competent manner utilizing evidence-based standards of quality, safety, and service. The MA 3 provides hands-on care to patients while adhering to regulatory requirements, standards of care, and institutional policies and procedures, under the direct supervision and responsibility of a licensed physician. The physician in charge may delegate the tasks to oversee the MA 3 to a Nurse or Designee in charge of the unit/clinic. The MA 3 shall adhere to ethical and legal standards of professional practice, recognize, respond to emergencies, and demonstrate professionalism. The MA 3 provides care within the philosophy, mission, vision, and values, as well as within the policies and procedures of the Department of Nursing and the University of Miami. As a professional, monitors the quality of care provided and nurtures a compassionate and healing environment. The MA 3 works directly with the Nurse Manager/Nurse Supervisor/Charge Nurse and/or the Designee in charge of the Unit or Clinic to ensure a safe delivery of care that supports the UHealth mission. Abides by the standards for ethical behavior, therapeutic communication and protecting the privacy of patient information. Demonstrate knowledge of basic medical terminology. Assists providers with physical examinations by preparing treatment/exam room with proper supplies, instruments, and materials, as directed. Understands the importance of medical and surgical asepsis. Prepares patients for physician’s care with basic instruction and information regarding examination procedures. Performs routine laboratory tests. Perform vital signs, EKG, phlebotomy, and document in patient’s medical record. Observes and reports patient’s signs or symptoms changes. Department Specific Functions The Medical Assistant will work with the Headache Division. Triage UChart In basket messages, which can include creating telephone encounters, and communicating with providers, patients, and other staff members. Ensure all related reports, labs and information is filed is available in patients’ medical records prior to their appointment Obtain complex authorizations for oral medications, diagnostic tests, durable medical equipment (DME), admissions, and other orders as needed. Schedules patients for tests and completes required forms for lab work. Confirmation of patient appointments. Maintains accurate and complete patient records/documentation in UChart. Orders, stocks, and inventories supplies and assists in performing clerical duties. Provides patients with basic instruction and information regarding examination procedures. May assist with physical examinations by preparing supplies and handing instruments/materials to the doctor as directed, as well as with with Neurotoxin mixing. Comply with Neurology PQRS workflow.
