Acute Inpatient APRN/PA, Jackson Memorial Hospital, Transplant, Full Time, Night Shift Summary The APRN Inpatient provide a wide range of primary, acute and specialty healthcare services, both autonomously and in partnership with other healthcare professionals, in accordance with State and Federal regulations. These services include managing patient's overall care; prescribing medications and treatments; ordering, conducting and interpreting diagnostic tests, such as x-rays, EKGs and lab work; diagnosing and treating chronic and acute conditions, including injuries, infections, diabetes and high blood pressure; performing invasive procedures; counseling; and educating patients on positive health-promoting lifestyle choices and disease, injury and illness prevention. Incumbent in the job classification may perform unit specific duties based on the specialty. Duties and Responsibilities Uses clinical judgments in conducting health assessments making differential diagnosis, and prescribing pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments. Plans are implemented through independent action, health counseling, and collaboration with other members of the health team. The APRN is responsible for clinical oversight and health center consultation regarding administration of health care policy and procedure of the delivery of on-site health services. The NP promotes optimum health, prevents illness and injury, and manages acute and chronic health problems in the on-site setting. Performs physical examinations and preventive health measures within prescribed guidelines and instructions of Physician. Orders, interprets, and evaluates diagnostic tests to identify and assess patients clinical problems and health care needs. Records physical findings, and formulates plan and prognosis, based on patients condition. Provides written home-going instructions. Makes referrals for follow-up to appropriate community resources. Collaborates with other specialties to ensure interdisciplinary management and continuity of care for both inpatients and outpatients. Collaborates with Physician and other health professionals to prepare comprehensive patient care plan as necessary. Prescribes or recommends medications or other forms of treatment such as physical therapy, inhalation therapy, or related therapeutic procedures. Refers patients to Physician for consultation or to specialized health resources for treatment. Maintains detailed and accurate medical records. Educates and coaches nursing staff on best nursing practices. Initiates search of nursing literature/suggests changes/improvement in patient care standards. Integrates current knowledge of professional issues, trends in health care and technological advances into scope of practice. This job has no supervisory responsibilities. Follows and performs all related unit specific policies and procedures, as detailed on the unit specific competency check-list. Utilizes job and unit specific equipment as required. Review case delays. Involved in PI projects for the department. Psychiatric nurse practitioners can capacitate psychiatric patients in the hospital setting, they can also provide one of the professional opinions on the 2 Physician certification form (B-32). Takes and picks up food orders for patient's kitchen evaluation. Assists discharge process according to JHS policies under supervision. Makes daily rounds of assigned work area and initiates work orders for repair as needed and communicates action to appropriate health care team members. Maintains supplies and equipment for patient floor: inventories, orders, stocks, rotates, charges for both supplies and equipment. Assists with office duties as needed, i.e. answering phone, taking messages. Follows and performs all related unit specific policies and procedures, as detailed on the unit specific competency check-list. Utilizes job and unit specific equipment as required. Incumbent who is assigned in ER may perform duties include but not limited to respond to medical and other emergency and non-emergency calls, assists the paramedic in providing emergency medical treatment and triage as necessary, and assists in loading patient and provides transportation of patient to a medical facility. Incumbent who is assigned to specialty area may prepare patient for procedure, sterile equipment and assist procedure under medical team's direction. Experience Generally requires 1 to 3 years of related experience. Education High School diploma is required.
