Position Summary: Functions as a member of clinical team performing a supportive role in the delivery of patient care that is safe, effective, patient-centered, timely, efficient and equitable. Position Key Accountabilities: 1. Performs responsibilities in a manner that promotes quality patient care and customer service/satisfaction. 2. Effectively participates in planning and preparing for patient visits ensuring appropriate schedules, test results, and clinic specific requirements are available. 3. Rooms patients consistent with clinic needs while determining and documenting chief complaint and reason for visit, vital signs, medication list, allergies, smoking history and other information as required by clinic. Keeps patients informed of delays and progress of clinical appointments. 4. As required and competency validated, performs appropriate hearing and vision testing, EKG, spirometry, point of care testing, specimen collection, equipment cleaning/reprocessing and other requested procedures. 5. Prepares and stocks rooms (daily/weekly) and clinic supplies in advance of clinic visit as well as cleaning rooms appropriately between patients. 6. Prepares for and assists with routine and specialty procedures. 7. Schedules patients for follow up appointments or referrals and performs routine clerical duties for team and staff to include photocopying, scanning and faxing. 8. Performs telephone messaging and in person screening with appropriate follow up. 9. Responds to emergency situations. 10. Respects and maintains privacy and confidentiality per HIPAA guidelines. 11. Performs other duties as assigned. Key Responsibilities Obtains medical history and performs physical exam on patients. Interprets diagnostic tests and radiographic results and come up with a management plan for patients in concert with fellow and faculty physicians. Takes responsibility for patient assessment, triage, and therapeutic management of patient needs as an integral part of an interdisciplinary team. Documents in chart for all patients seen. Reviews/orders diagnostic tests and radiographic results. Formulates and manages patient treatment plans and outcomes. Performs procedures, prescribes treatment, and signs prescriptions in accordance with institution and state requirements. Screens physician calls to educate patient/family on care and resources. Performs as first or second assist on operative cases using fine motor skills and manual dexterity. Manage pre-operative and post-operative patients in coordination with the attending physician and Fellows. An in-depth understanding of the pathophysiology of both cancer as well as surgical process and wound healing is necessary. Provide patient education which requires good interpersonal skills and a working knowledge of urologic oncology. Coordinate patient care with multidisciplinary team to include but not limited to Physician, Advanced Practice Providers, providers from other hospital services, in-patient and outpatient nurses, Case Managers, Social Workers, Physical Therapist, Pharmacists, Respiratory Therapists and other Allied Health team members. EDUCATION Required: Degree requirements as defined by the Texas Board of Nursing (BON) or Texas State Board of Physician Assistant Examiners (TSBPAE) as required for clinical licensure as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse or Physician Assistant. Master's Degree Accredited Physician Assistant (PA) program by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA), except for Physician Assistants who graduated from a PA program prior to 2013.
