Overview About the Role The Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) is a skilled health provider who through a written collaborative practice agreement with a physician is credentialed through the Medical Staff Office. As a member of the Medical Staff the APN demonstrates standards of professional practice that includes ethical decision making, job activities related to quality assessment/improvement, self-evaluation, leadership, and research. The APN is self-directed and purposeful in seeking necessary knowledge and skills to develop and maintain competency. The APN in the Surgery Practices utilizes critical judgment in the performance of comprehensive health assessments, differential diagnosis, and the prescribing of pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatments in the direct management of patients diagnosed with a variety of surgical conditions/diseases. The APN practice will promote wellness through conducting research, providing education and works autonomously as well as in interdisciplinary teams. Responsibilities What You’ll Do Collects comprehensive patient health data/history including past and present medical, surgical, family, and social history. Diagnostic tests and procedures relevant to the patient’s status are collected, interpreted, and documented at the Electronic Medical Record (EMR). Completes the medication reconciliation process by documenting the current list of medications (including over the counter and nutritional supplements) taken by patient at each visit. Performs and documents an appropriate comprehensive physical assessment of patients which will include a review of systems, evaluation of manifestations and toxicities related to medical conditions and anticoagulation management. Minimum of four (4) years of clinical nursing experience required, preferably in oncology and/or the assigned disease specialty. Current New Jersey Registered Nurse (RN) license required. Oncology Nursing Certification required or must be obtained within 24 months of employment and maintained throughout employment. Knowledge of the healthcare system, cancer care, community resources, and social service resources for cancer patients required. Strong leadership, organizational, written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills required. Ability to work independently in a self-directed environment and effectively lead and collaborate with teams. Demonstrated empathy and a service-oriented approach when engaging with patients, families, and community groups. Ability to exercise independent judgment, tact, and diplomacy in all situations. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite required. Ability to work flexible hours. Bilingual language proficiency preferred. Additional years of nursing experience and/or Nurse Navigator experience may be substituted for degree requirements on a year-for-year basis. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required. Additional Strongly Preferred Qualifications: Breast Nurse Navigation certification is strongly preferred. Candidates who do not possess certification at the time of hire are encouraged to obtain certification within six (6) months of employment and may be asked to provide documentation demonstrating progress toward certification through a qualifying training program.
