Purpose of Position: Nursing Assistant Performs as a member of the Nursing Team various duties assisting Staff Nurses in the treatment and care of patients in accordance with established policies and procedures. Assembles and uses such equipment as catheters, tracheotomy tubes, and oxygen suppliers. Prepares or examines food trays for prescribed diet and feeds patients. Records food and fluid intake and output. Bathes, dresses, and assists patients in walking and turning. Cleans rooms, makes beds, and answers patients' calls. Washes and dresses bodies of deceased persons. Assists in delivery, care, and feeding of infants. Inventories and requisitions supplies. Performs tracheotomy care, colostomy care, wound care and dressing changes. Demonstrates through clinical practice the use of universal precautions, understands the OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Standards. Demonstrates a thorough knowledge and/or practice in the prevention of TB transmission and adheres to all other infection control policies.
