The James is one of 40 National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer centers and is the home to pioneering cancer research, prevention and treatment in the progressive atmosphere of a dynamic university hospital setting. The Nursing Residency Program incorporates Patricia Benner's theoretical model of novice to expert and facilitates socialization into the Medical Center through hands-on clinical experience, in-depth classroom learning, and ongoing professional and personal development. Each resident will be provided with support from a Nurse Residency Program Educator who has advanced Nursing education and experience in transitioning new nurses from students to professionals and in the clinical specialty areas.
