Overview Overview: In accordance with professional standards of care and adhering to the corporate philosophy of OSF Medical Group (OSFMG), the Advanced Practice Nurse/Physician Assistant is responsible for: Gastroenterology care, including comprehensive GI‑focused assessments, rounding, histories and physicals, new consults, admissions, and discharges Support a rapidly growing GI service line, providing clinical partnership to Physicians and APPs as procedure volume and patient demand continue to expand Assist in managing gastroenterology patients in the clinic, helping ensure timely access, continuity of care, and high‑quality follow‑up Develop and implement individualized treatment plans in collaboration with attending gastroenterologists Prepare patients for endoscopic or interventional GI procedures, manage post‑procedure care, and support smooth transitions across the continuum of care Order and interpret diagnostic tests, including laboratory studies, abdominal imaging, stool studies, and GI‑specific diagnostics Provide patient and family education to enhance understanding of GI diagnoses, treatment options, lifestyle modifications, and long‑term disease management Collaborative work environment with gastroenterologists, residents, advanced practice providers, dietitians, nursing staff, and multidisciplinary teams Five 8-hour day shifts per week, Monday – Friday, 8am – 5pm. Overview POSITION SUMMARY Ideally a candidate with wound care background or surgery background but open to training a candidate Will see approximately 12-18 patients a day Perform comprehensive inpatient assessments of patients with acute and chronic wounds, ostomies, and incontinence Develop and implement evidence-based wound care treatment plans, including ordering appropriate diagnostic tests, medications, dressings, and devices Provide wound debridement, negative pressure wound therapy, biopsies, and other procedures as indicated Monitor and evaluate patient progress and response to treatment Educate patients, families, and caregivers on wound prevention, management, and self-care Document patient encounters and interventions in the electronic medical record Communicate effectively with other members of the health care team Participate in quality improvement initiatives and professional development activities Hyperbaric chamber experience preferred, training is available if needed.
