Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner - Surgical Critical Care Night Shift

Summary The Trauma and Acute Care Surgery Division in the Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery is seeking a qualified Advanced Practice Provider to provide high quality critical care services under the direction of a physician at Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center. The candidate will be expected to provide clinical excellence and scholarly enthusiasm. The provider will have direct patient care responsibilities. The selected candidate will be appointed as a faculty Instructor and be eligible for full faculty benefits. Primary responsibilities include management of patients in the surgical ICU or thoracic surgical ICU at Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center overnight from 6:30 PM to 6:30 AM. This will include a variety of general surgery, transplant, vascular, cardiothoracic and general thoracic patients. Job Duties Obtain detailed history and perform physical examinations. Perform, order, and interpret diagnostic procedures in accordance with relevant health concerns of the patient. Prescribes appropriate pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments. Maintain records and write orders and progress notes in patient charts as to status, treatments, and procedures. Monitors and ensures accuracy of recording on patient medical records. Provide follow-up health maintenance care to patients in accordance with protocols established with the supervising physician. Communicate with physicians, patients, and the family members of patients concerning patient care. Collaborates with providers, and practice staff in identifying appropriate patients for care management. Perform other job related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Education Required: Master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies or Nursing. NOTE: Bachelor's degree in Physician Assistant Studies accepted based on terminal degree requirements at time of graduation. Experience Required: None required. Certification/Licenses/Registration: Current license as a Physician Assistant by the State of Texas Physician Assistant Board or APRN license by the Texas Board of Nursing. Job Duties Effectively identifies, evaluates, and addresses acute and chronic problems as well as disease prevention and health promotion issues of the patients while administering quality patient care. Works in an independent and interdependent relationship with the physician, which allows for consultation, collaboration, or referral. Responsible for initial consultation and/or follow up diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic healthcare issues of clinic patients. Responsible for communicating test results and recommendations to patients and/or their caregivers. Responsive to the questions and concerns of patients and their family members. Educates patients and/or families about preventative care, medical issues, and use of prescribed medical treatments and or medications. Maintains accurate and confidential medical records. Documents all medical evaluations, diagnoses, procedures, treatment, outcomes, education, referrals, and consultations consistent with state regulatory standards. Facilitates evaluation of records by physicians and peers and receives and implements constructive directives. Prepares cardiac clearance letters to referring physicians, for transplant and pre-operative clearance. Prescribes medications in accordance with prescriptive authority granted by the Texas Medical Board/Board of Nurse Examiners. Maintains professional certification as dictated by the Texas Medical Board/Board of Nurse Examiners. Follows latest ACC and AHA guidelines as protocol and standard of care which shall be defined to promote the exercise of professional judgment by the NP/PA commensurate with his/her education and experience. Overview Pediatrix Neonatology of Houston, an affiliate of Pediatrix Medical Group, is seeking an outstanding Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) to join our growing practice Responsibilities Join the premier neonatal practice in Houston, Texas! Pediatrix Neonatology of Houston, an affiliate of Pediatrix Medical Group, seeks outstanding NNPs to join our growing practice. Our established neonatal practice includes over 50 neonatologists and over 100 APRNs and serves 15 hospitals across four leading hospital systems throughout Houston and the surrounding area. We welcome new graduates and provide a comprehensive new graduate orientation program. NNPs in our practice typically provide 24-hour in-house coverage. However, some of our sites offer 12-72 hour shifts to support work-life balance. Each NNP has a home hospital and is part of a core team but must be willing to occasionally rotate through at least one additional hospital within the practice. NNPs and neonatologists work collaboratively in providing comprehensive neonatal care from the delivery room through discharge at multiple Level II and III NICUs, including several tertiary high-risk delivery hospitals and one Level IV hospital (The Woman’s Hospital of Texas). NNPs are an active part of all aspects of caring for the full range of complex neonatal diagnoses. Our ECMO, therapeutic hypothermia, BPD/micro-preemie programs, and a full range of ventilation therapies, including HFOV and HFJV, provide an excellent opportunity for professional growth for both experienced practitioners and new graduates. Our NNPs are also a part of an NNP-led air and ground transport team. Transport duties are not required.
